🐶 BARKING UP THE RIGHT TREE: DOG PARK IMPROVEMENT UPDATE! 🐾✨
Attention dog lovers! Here’s a quick leash-length update on the ongoing maintenance and upgrades happening at the Jackie & Dave Thompson Dog Park! 🦴

We’re working hard to banish muddy paws and standing water so your pups have the best play area in town.

Here’s the scoop:

🧱 Entryway Upgrade: Outside the west entrance, we’ve installed Turfstone pavers, a water basin, and drainage tile to control runoff!

🚧 West Entrance Closure: The west entrance will stay closed through mid-October while everything settles before final topsoil and grading work.

🌧️ More Drainage Next Week: Weather permitting, we’ll be putting additional drainage tile inside the park to fix pooling spots!

🚰 New Fountain On The Way: A new dual-station water fountain (with a dog bowl + bottle filler!) is coming October–November and will turn on next spring!

A huge thank you for your patience and enthusiasm as we build a better park for our community's favorite pups! 🐕💛

Hoot hoot, Macomb! Oliver the Barred Owl is swooping in to remind you that our Wild Wonders open house is TOMORROW, Friday, September 18th! 🎒🏡

Pack up your little explorers and drop in on your own schedule anytime between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Here is what's waiting for you at the Nature Center:

🐝 Indoor Discoveries: Enjoy imaginative play stations, tactile discovery tables, and cozy up in our wooden reading nook with a nature book! The center is full of invitations to play and discover more about our local wildlife and ecosystems.

🌾 Trail Adventures: Stroll through the nation’s largest 7-circuit vegetation Prairie Labyrinth, read page-by-page along our StoryWalk® path, and enjoy a picnic on our covered porch!

No tickets or pre-registration needed, just come join us for a morning of wonder in the prairie! 🍂

Due to anticipated rain, saturated field conditions, and volunteer availability, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this Friday’s Movie in the Park (Jurassic World: Rebirth) at Veterans Park. 😕

We know so many of you were looking forward to a cozy movie night under the stars, but keeping our park grounds in great shape and ensuring a fun, safe, and dry experience for our families and volunteers is our top priority!

WHAT A PICTURE-PERFECT DAY AT THE GAZEBO ART FESTIVAL! 🎨🏺📸✨
What an absolute dream of a weekend in downtown Macomb! We are still smiling from ear to ear thinking about all the sunshine, laughter, and incredible local creativity that filled Chandler Park for this year's Gazebo Art Festival! 🌳🍂

A massive, warm thank-you goes out to everyone who stopped by the Macomb Park District clay table to say hello and get their hands muddy! Our free kids' clay table was buzzing all day long with little sculptors molding, squishing, and shaping their very own masterpieces. Seeing those big, proud smiles as kiddos showed off their unique clay creations was easily one of our favorite moments of the entire festival! 🏺✨

A Huge Round of Applause for Our Super Star Volunteers & Staff: An event like this takes a true village! A huge shout-out to the hardworking Gazebo Art Festival committee, volunteers, and our Park District helpers!

Thank you to the event organizers, local artists, and every single community member who came out to celebrate the arts in the heart of Macomb. We love growing, creating, and playing alongside this incredible community! 💛

A Dino-Sized Adventure Awaits! 🦕🌳🎞️
Our park crew is officially testing the sound system, the screen is prepped, and the field is ready.

This Friday, gather your favorite explorers and meet us at Veterans Park for Jurassic World: Rebirth! Drop by early to get the best picnic spot, and so you can grab a plate of slow-smoked goodness from Sugba Smokehouse and sweet fudgy treats from Cooper's Candy Concoctions before the movie begins at dusk (around 7:00 PM).

Admission is completely free, and the popcorn is always hot and fresh. See you Friday! 🍿🥤

Calling all young sculptors, makers, and mud-pie masters! 🎨 Our upcoming Clay Lab for Kids & Teens next Saturday, September 26th is almost completely full!

Young artists (ages 7–14) will dive into hands-on hand-building, surface design, and glazing to create their very own ceramic masterpieces. Our focus throughout the autumn clay labs will emphasize personal creativity, collaborating with nature, making projects for gifting, and an introduction to alternative surface techniques.

In case our first announcement flew right past your feed, here is your friendly neighborhood reminder: your favorite monthly nature hangout has a whimsical new name, and a double-sized schedule! 🎒🏡

To make sure nobody misses out on the fun, our beloved "First Friday" open houses at Lakeview have officially transformed into Wild Wonders! 🪺🍂

And because we just couldn't get enough of seeing your smiling faces exploring the tallgrass, we have officially doubled our open house days! Instead of just once a month, our doors are now wide open for Wild Wonders every 1st AND 3rd Friday of the month from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM!

We had such a beautiful time at our first session on September 4th. If you missed it, don't worry! Your next chance to escape the screens, slow down, and play is just around the corner on Friday, September 18th.

🦅 Prairie Fun Fact: Did you know the Red-Tailed Hawks soaring above Lakeview have eyesight about 8 times sharper than humans? While they’re up there watching over our 55 acres of tallgrass prairie, you can be down below exploring our nature center's discovery tables, and discover the StoryWalk® trail, and natural Labyrinth just outside its doors!

Come drop in on your own schedule to explore:

🐝 Inside the Nature Center: Peep at our honey bee display, touch and sort at our tactile discovery tables, or read a story in our cozy reading nook.

We are thrilled to welcome Sugba Smokehouse to our final Movie in the Park! If you haven't experienced their signature slow-cooked, wood-fired barbecue yet, you are in for a legendary treat. Don’t forget to circle Friday, September 18th in bright red on your calendar to come enjoy a FREE movie, popcorn, and drink under the stars!

Our final, monumental Movie in the Park of the year is just around the corner. We are transforming Veterans Park into an ancient jungle under the stars for Jurassic World: Rebirth! 🦕🔥

This is our final outdoor cinema event of the season, and we’re going out with a bang! We'll have a massive screen on the grass, completely FREE popcorn, and ice-cold drinks to keep the whole family happy. It’s the ultimate free family date night! 🍿🥤

And don't forget to bring your appetite and a sweet tooth! Our food vendors for the night are are Sugba Smokehouse and Cooper's Candy Concoctions. AND GoWest transit will be providing free rides to and from the movie, stay tuned for route updates!
