A week ago, this special group traveled to Windsor, Colorado and did something truly remarkable.

Our 55 Buckets 8th/9th grade girls, with the addition of one incoming junior, won the High School Division at the iHoop Nation Summer Finale. The same core group—along with a few incoming 6th graders—also finished runner-up in the 8th/9th grade division, falling by just one point in the championship game after playing back-to-back title games.

The majority of this team played 11 games in less than 48 hours, competing against older, stronger competition all weekend.

Just a few days after returning from Colorado, this same group traveled to Oklahoma to compete in the MAYB 11th/12th grade division. Our Oklahoma roster consisted of incoming 8th and 9th graders, along with one junior and one senior. During the check-in process, one of the tournament staff looked at our roster and said, “You have some babies playing this high up.”

The results? Three hard-fought losses by just 3, 4, and 3 points. Those scores don’t tell the whole story. Led by Maygen and Danali, whose defensive presence and leadership set the tone, these girls competed with quality programs all weekend. More than once, opponents had to switch to a zone defense just to slow us down.

Yes, winning a “National” tournament would have been great. But watching this group continue to grow, compete fearlessly, and prove they belong against 16U&17U players was something even more valuable.

Beyond proud of these girls. Their toughness, resilience, and willingness to embrace difficult challenges say far more than any trophy ever could. The future is incredibly bright for this group.
