What happens when children have the TIME to discover their own internal rhythm? ⏳✨

Let's find out in our Reggio-Inspired Playgroup this week featuring our Music Atelier! 🎶

What's that, you ask? Our Music Atelier is a curated laboratory of sound full of new and familiar instruments, loose parts, and other materials designed to invite exploration as children play, move, and connect with the rhythms all around them. 🥁🌬️

By exploring steady "heartbeat rhythms" and flowing "breath rhythms," your little one will discover new ways to communicate big feelings long before they have the words for them. 💖 Whether they're pounding out excitement on a drum, shaking away frustration, or settling into the soothing sound of a giant rainmaker, music offers a hands-on way to express what's happening inside. Through play, children discover that sound can be a powerful tool for self-expression, emotional release, and self-regulation.

Join us for intentional, music-based provocations that invite you and your little one to investigate how different materials can sync up, tap out a pulse, or flow freely in real-time. 🔍

💬 Let us know below: Is your family thriving on steady "heartbeat" routines right now, or are you living in the flexible, flowing "breath" rhythm of summer? 👇

Earlier this week, we talked about using a steady, predictable rhythm to recover from a toddler (or our own) meltdown. But did you know that different seasons of the year actually invite different types of rhythms into our bodies?

Seasons change, and their rhythms ebb and flow. The lazy days of summer mirror the sustained and uneven quality of “Breath Rhythms,” sometimes longer, sometimes shorter, lingering, and lounging, with bursts of speed to balance the pace. This is quite different than the steady and reliable “Heartbeat rhythms” that define autumn, winter, and spring when we speed up, slow down, and pause for rest.
🎼
Composing rhythms with our bodies and getting in sync with an external pulse are highly pleasurable experiences for the brain. They both stimulate and soothe, making this one of the most enjoyable ways to move to the rhythm of life!

Save this post as your reminder to join us at Family Health Centers, Inc. (East Broadway) on Saturday!

❓ What happens when ice cream gets angry?
🍦 It has a meltdown!

All jokes aside, we’ve all been there with our little ones (and let’s be honest, we’ve all been there with ourselves, too). Brain overstimulation is real, and summer schedules can throw everyone out of whack.

So, what can we do to help a child recover from a real-life meltdown?

Sing a rhyming song and clap along to the beat! 🎼👏

Rhyming and rhythmic movements both stimulate AND soothe. When a child’s brain gets “in sync” with a predictable, repetitive external pulse, it gives them an internal sense of control, safety, and alertness.

We practice these playful, brain-soothing rhythms every single week at GrowBabyGrow! Come join the fun and get in sync with us.

As we get ready to celebrate 🇺🇸Independence Day🇺🇸, I find myself reflecting on some beautiful insights from historian Dr. Joanne Freeman’s recent livestream. Here at GrowBabyGrow, we talk so much about the vital power of community — how it “takes a village” to support our families and nurture our littlest ones as they “play to learn” and explore the world around them.
🎇
Hearing a historian's perspective reminded me that building a nation, just like building a community, is an ongoing, collaborative journey. As she so beautifully put it, what truly matters is "...the spirit behind Independence Day, July 4th... over the long haul of American history, it’s the spirit of the day that means something."
🎇
She reminded us that at our core, "We are a We, folks. We are, we are We. And in a sense, what is a nation but a We? Right? We own our history..." That "We" includes all of our families, neighbors, and the next generation we are raising together. It's a wonderful reminder that we can joyfully celebrate our independence and the community we've built, while keeping our hearts open to the work still ahead to make our country a truly united, supportive, and inclusive place for every child to grow.

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Juneteenth season, friends! ☀️ Today, we reflect on what "Freedom Day" truly means, not just as a moment in history, but as an ongoing journey. Together with your little ones, let’s honor this day by learning more about it, modeling inclusive behavior, using our voices for fairness, and standing up against exclusion.

Have you seen these two Juneteenth flags? Curious about what makes them special?

Let’s learn more together!

The Juneteenth Flag ©
National Juneteenth Observance Foundation
🔴 ⚪🔵The red, white, and blue colors mirror those of the American flag – a reminder that enslaved people and their descendants were, are, and always have been rightfully American citizens.
⭐The white 5-point star is a symbol for Texas (the Lone Star State) and also the freedom of enslaved citizens. Texas is where the Juneteenth holiday started.
🌟The big starburst represents a new beginning and tells about the spread of freedom.
🌄The red arch at the bottom half of the flag is meant to represent a “new horizon.”

The African Liberation Flag (created 1920)
People designed this flag to tell the story of the unity among people from Africa.

The colors:
❤️Red to stand for struggle and sacrifice
🖤Black to stand for black people
💚Green to stand for the natural wealth of the land of Africa

These flags remind us of the ideals we must uphold every day by continuing to learn about and embrace the diverse people who make up this country and deserve to call it home.

Today’s the day; it's time to play! ✨️

Was your workweek all go go go? It’s Saturday, and you’re invited to take it S… L… O… W… 🐢

There’s something so special about sharing unhurried time while your little one leads the way. Time to notice, to test, to repeat, to wonder. And right at the start of the weekend, it creates space for connection, regulation, and joy together. 💖

Especially on this rainy day, join us where all the set-up and clean-up is in someone else’s “living room!” Our space at Family Health Centers, Inc. is eager to be filled with your little one’s squeals of delight as they choose their own adventure with the concept... SPEED!

Drop a 🐢 if you’re ready to slow it down, or a 🏃‍♀️ if your little one is still in full speed mode.

What happens when we give children the TIME to direct their own learning? ✨

It’s Reggio-Inspired Playgroup week! We’ll explore the concept of SPEED — S… L… O...W… & FAST, by inviting self-paced investigations.

This week, we will celebrate child-led discovery by honoring children's agency to "choose their own adventure." Our environment will feature intentional provocations that invite children and their grown-ups to get curious and investigate how various materials can move fast or slow, testing out their own theories in real-time. 🔍

Being able to move their body on demand, at their own pace, is an amazing way for your little one to feel in control of their strength. This child-led agency is exactly where self-control and emotional regulation begin! 💖

As they power up and down with greater skill and efficiency, their brain is freed up for higher-level thinking. Big, important skills like concentration, planning, and problem-solving take root through play! 🧩🤸‍♀️

Drop a 🏃‍♂️ or a 🐢 in the comments if you have a little adventurer ready to experiment with SPEED this week!
