KENTUCKY TENNIS HISTORY - A MOMENT IN TIME
In 1976, Texas sophomore and Louisville native Gary Plock received a wild card into the U.S. Open Qualifiers as a member of the U.S. National Team. The tournament had just moved to clay.
His opponent? A young John McEnroe.
McEnroe won the match 6–0, 6–4. Just ten months later, that “young player” would reach the semifinals at Wimbledon.
Plock returned to Texas and went on to an All-American career.
