Everyone has Chakras.

And, according to ancient perspectives, where Chakras originated - everyone's Chakras are already aligned.

It's our body and mind that aren't aligned.

We get so caught up in our career, relationships, family, and pursuing our desires, that we don't take care of our inner being. It's not as sexy, it can feel boring, and even lonely. Who wants to sit and get quiet when everyone else is posting how exciting their life is?

Yet, when things don't go our way, then the lack of inner awareness shows up in how we react to things; do we snap back in hostile retaliation? Or crawl into a cave and avoid? We make choices that are not the best for us but we can't stop, not knowing why.

The why is because we are not aligned to our whole self.

The study of the Chakras helps us align with the True Self, our soul. (Yes, you have a soul, regardless of your religious beliefs.) We discover where gaps dwell, possibly from childhood experiences or even earlier, and we can heal them.

While it's fun to play with the Chakras through poses, essential oils, matching outfits, and other external tools, the authentic connection happens when we get still. All of that external energy is turned inwards, to access an avenue of flowing joy and freedom.

You are all that you need. It's just a matter of learning how to translate this inner world so that you can connect with it any time you wish.

Working with the Chakras essentially becomes a very fulfilling inside job.

How do we find clarity when everything around us feels noisy?

This week’s classes explore the Sixth Chakra, or Third Eye—the center associated with discernment, inner wisdom, and our ability to see clearly.

Discernment helps us sort through the noise: What deserves my attention? What can I let go of? What is actually true beneath all the distraction?

We’ll work with balance postures to strengthen concentration while cultivating stillness within—even when the world around us refuses to slow down.

This is one of yoga’s great gifts: we may not be able to control what is happening around us, but we can learn to manage our attention and energy within it. This is the power that yoga provides.

Lions Breath for the win in the Fifth Chakra!

The energy center located at the pit of your throat can often feel stuck or blocked leading to limited communication. Or it can be over-exhausted from too much talking.

While it’s not “attractive,” Lion’s Breath is an excellent practice to bring space and healing that allowing Truthful communication to flow.

Try it! It’s Fun Friday!

When I first learned to meditate, I practiced in a Tibetan Buddhist lineage that emphasized quieting the body and mind. After years of practice, I finally started to get a hang of it.

However, after meditation, my mind often returned to the same unhealthy habits. I had found a way to get a break from my thoughts, but I hadn't necessarily transformed them.

Then I learned Ta***ic meditation techniques.

At first, they drove me crazy. Everything felt so busy!

Repeating a mantra over and over seemed to activate my mind rather than bring stillness. Aren't we supposed to become quiet and serene?

Over time, I began to understand mantra's power and value. Mantra uses vibration to work with the patterns of the mind. Rather than simply trying to silence my thoughts, I was giving my mind something purposeful to absorb—a vibration that could remove old patterns and cultivate positive qualities.

This week my classes focus on the Fifth Chakra, located at the throat and associated with speech, communication, listening, and vibration. Because our words travel through vibration, mantra is one of the practices traditionally used to work with this energy center.

These days, when I sit to meditate, I naturally turn toward mantra. I rest in its vibration until it carries me somewhere deeper. Sometimes the mantra eventually disappears, and what remains is stillness—just me, resting in the lap of the Divine.

I've come to understand that mantra isn't busywork at all. It's a tool for transformation and healing.

This is why it is so commonly connected with the Fifth Chakra: what we repeatedly listen to, speak, and vibrate matters. We can use sound not only to express who we are, but to help shape who we are becoming.

This week is full of exciting additions to my schedule!

In honor of Center for Yoga's Five Year Anniversary, I am joining the renowned Joe Kara Yoga to co-teach the flow class on Monday night. We are going to operate just like jazz musicians, feeding off of each other, full improvisation. Come! It's going to be fun!

I'm also subbing for Joe on Sunday morning. There will be music, since I know it's a strong piece of that class.

For my regualr classes, we enter the theme of the Fifth Chakra, Vishuddha. Located in the throat, it is also connected to the neck, shoulders, inversions, and speech. Plan on some fun expierences as we free the uppper body and release any pent up emotions.

This photo was taken many years ago, when I was doing what I have spent countless hours of my life doing: studying yoga.

Decades of weekends were spent in workshops with visiting teachers, exploring asana, alignment, and different approaches to practice. Instead of vacations, I often traveled to study with my teachers—learning yoga philosophy, pranayama, meditation, and the deeper practices that extend far beyond the poses.

Over the years, I’ve studied with many different teachers and traditions. I’ve found value in each, and all of it has shaped the way I teach a wide variety of students today.

Continuing to study yoga hasn’t only made me a better teacher nor just opened doors professionally. It has also deepened my own practice. It has changed the way I understand myself. And, little by little, it has helped me become a better human.

That may be what I love most about this path: there is always more to learn.

We continue to study yoga not because we haven't learned enough, but because the practice keeps revealing more of who we can become.

Have you been thinking about joining me?...

Sometimes, even though we're interested in something, we keep putting off the decision to act. I know I do that. And then, it's too late. (And then I'm so frustrated with myself!)

This may be the moment to take another look at PEELING THE LAYERS OF THE CHAKRAS course that I'm offering.

It's an opportunity dive, from the surface of yoga into a deep exploration - of the Chakras and of yourself. You will learn how each energy center relates to your body, psychology, patterns, energy and consciousness—and how the ancient yogis actually worked with these subtle centers. (Why learn ancient techniques? Because they still work, which is amazing!)

You don't have to be a yoga teacher. You simply need a steady practice and be open to learning more.

And, you don't have to attend every session live.
Everything is recorded, with plenty of time to move through the material at your own pace.

The Early Bird Discount which saves some money, ends TOMORROW, Friday, August 21.

If you've been waiting for a reason to make the decision, this could be it.

Wow, THANK YOU, to all of the wonderful yogis who registered for the Ta**ra Flow Yoga FREE Class on Sunday.

These are some of the comments that students wrote following the class. I am sincerely so very touched by their words and presence.

We had 90 people sign up from around the globe, and over 30 were livestream with me. Everyone has received an email with the link to the recording so that they can practice or repeat the class at their convenience, good for two weeks.

This is proof that practicing yoga through a computer CAN work.

Yes, it would be better to be in person. Totally.

But when we can't manage to fly across the globe, pay for housing and expenses, and leave our responsibilities, technology does offer a lot of benefits.

We Flowed Through the Chakras, feeling the vibration from the Bija Mantra of each energy center in correspondence to the sequencing. We closed with a lovely Ta***ic Kriya and sat in pure stillness for a few moments at the end. The real experience of the Chakras is the inner silence, guiding us to inner wisdom and Kundalini.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Collective practice really does work. And, did I mention how much I love these students?....

The theme for this week's yoga practices is the Heart Chakra, the Fourth Chakra.

When we think of heart openers, we think of backbends. But backbends are also considered heating postures which can aggravate things when it's hot outside or inside one's mind. (It's really hot in LA right now.)

It's not the category nor the pose that matters. It's HOW we teach the pose that can cultivate a specific quality of energy, or remove a specific energy.

This week I will be offering practices that lead to heart openers, helping you feel light, spacious, and very loving. Come join me: in person, livestream, or on demand.
