Karpatok Hungarian Dance Ensemble

One of our traditions is to celebrate the birthdays of our members once a month by saboring a champagne and cake. At our last rehearsal before our summer break we toasted to the 250th birthday of the USA. Fireworks were provided by Spacex rocket launch. Happy 4th of July! Go USA! Go Karpatok!

Sándor Tímár was the artistic director of the Hungarian National Folk Ensemble and in the 80s a few times traveled to LA to work with our dance group with his wife. You can see them interviewed in the “Story of Los Angeles Karpatok” documentary on Youtube. He passed away at the age of 96 today. RIP Sandor Timar!

We had a great evening with Dűvő band and Kürtőskalács band yesterday. Organised by the LA Táncház folks, it was a wonderful night of Hungarian folk music and dance. (Photos by Anna Reeves, thanks!)

We performed at the 10th Hungarian Heritage Festival in Belmont on May 9th. On the way home we visited the Wi******er House in San Jose. The renowned Dűvő Band played one of our dance music. We’ll be back together this Saturday at St Stephen Church at 4:30PM for concert, dancing and táncház!

We made it to Belmont after an obligatory stop for In-n-out dinner. See you at the festival tomorrow!
