Nela Athletics is now an official HYROX Affiliate.
HYROX is a training style that combines running, strength, and functional conditioning into workouts that are challenging, structured, and purpose-driven. It’s a great fit for people who want to build strength and endurance, improve overall fitness, and train in a way that feels both motivating and measurable.
What makes HYROX appealing is that it gives you a clear and effective workout without needing to feel like you have to be an expert before you begin. You do not need race experience. You do not need to be in top shape already. You just need a place to start.

Today we kicked off our very first Hyrox community event, and what an incredible way to celebrate becoming an Official Hyrox Training Club. Thank you to everyone who showed up, participated, and brought such amazing energy to the day. This community continues to make moments like these so special.

Member highlight: Cameron W.
"Before coming to Nela I knew my way around a weight room and had even done CrossFit before. So when I arrived here I was just looking for a place to get a workout, but I got a lot more than I expected. Nela over the years has become a community I can rely on in my life.
I first Joined Nela back in 2020 in the middle of Covid. I started with a couple Private Training sessions and switched over to classes. Everything was so confusing during those times. We still worked out with masks on, and I remember drowning in my own sweaty mask, but the gym was so essential for me back then. It really helped me maintain a healthy daily balance in those crazy times.
One thing I've learned from Nela is that CrossFit is really hard, and some days it's okay to go easy on yourself. Whatever helps you to just keep showing up the next day, because the real magic happens with consistency. (which is something that I can not be that great at sometimes). I used to burn the candle pretty hard at both ends in my life and the consistency of the gym has really helped me stay steady in some stressful times in my life.
4. My favorite thing about Nela is that it is without a doubt the most welcoming CrossFit gym I have ever stepped into. It's welcoming to all sizes, ages, and skill levels. Everyone has slightly different reasons why they come to work out: To feel good. To look good. To push themselves. Or maybe to just show up. The culture at Nela makes space for everyone to pursue their goals without judgement or pressure. I think that's great.
I would say to anyone thinking about joining Nela to quit waiting and try it out! Starting is the hardest part! Nela is a lot of fun and a fantastic community of people, and for me it's been a big support system in my life. I came to the Gym just looking for a place to work out, and I got a lot more."

Most people think meal prep = perfect, pre-portioned meals stacked in the fridge.
But if you’ve ever tried that and were tired of your prepped food by Thursday you’re note alone.
Here’s a better way to think about it:
Don’t prep full meals.
Prep meal “components” instead.
✅ Batch-cook 1–2 proteins like shredded chicken, ground turkey, steak, or hard boiled eggs
✅ Roast/Sautee 2–3 veggies you love
✅ Make a grain or carb base such as rice, potatoes, quinoa, or sweet potatoes
✅ Mix up one “flavor booster” like a favorite sauce or seasoning
Then? Just mix and match all week.
It’s faster, there’s less waste, and it’s way easier to stick with.

🫢 The way you breathe matters
‼️ When you breathe through your mouth or breathe shallowly, it puts your body into a low-level state of stress.
🤯 Most people don’t even realize this is happening, It can
⚠️ drain your energy
⚠️affect your posture
⚠️raise your stress
⚠️slow your recovery
⚠️and even impact your sleep and digestion
Here are two quick drills you can use to help retrain your breathing patterns:
✅️ The 4-second nose-breathing break
• Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds
• Exhale through your nose for 4 seconds
• for 1 to 2 minutes
💪🏻This helps calm your nervous system and encourages deeper, more efficient breathing.
✅️ The belly-breathing check-in or diaphragmatic breathing
• Place one hand on your chest and one on your belly
• Inhale through your nose and get the belly to rise first
• Exhale slowly and let the shoulders relax
• for 1 to 2 minutes
💪🏻This helps your body’s calming “rest and digest” nervous system to kick in increasing oxygen levels and reducing stress.
