Started at 0 dark thirty. The gate was letting people in early because of some run that was going on and the staging area was the parking lot. Last night, I was looking at the Mediums that I set aside for myself and thought “I don’t need more than two. I never lose anything.” Lost both of my mediums right away while there was only moonlight. 😭 High tide around 11:30am, lots of sand crab beds walking further north, but 99.9% around 1/4” long or smaller. I got to a certain section and got 5 fish in a row and the 3 guys fishing 100 feet away from me gave me the stink eye. All mixed with Barred Surf Perch(all around 6”-8”) and these two Yellowfin Croaker. The biggest YFC was probably close to 2 pounds. I thought it might have been a Corbina when I first hooked it. It really fouled up my rig badly and had to cut everything off and re-tie! Also looks like the big one got away from a seal and I didn’t even see one Corbina in the skinny water. Not even before sunrise. Everything caught on a standard micro.

Coming soon: 1x medium. This is around the size of the original OG sand crab from 2019. This is the prototype. The production model will have the line tie lower on the butt of the crab. I’ve always wanted to have this size of sand crab again, but with secondary movement. That’s why I’m also adding some silicone legs on the front and back. It will also include the antennas just like the 1x crabs always have had. I might just drive myself crazy making these. Other details from this prototype: 1” long, ~ 0.21oz(6 grams), Owner Hooks hyperwire split ring and no 6 mosquito hook.

Thanks for looking!

Same spot as last weekend. The sun came out very bright and warm soon after I got in. No marine layer at all. Saw 8 Corbina in the skinny water today. Caught this Corbina, maybe 15-16 inches, this YFC and a barred surf perch. Lost another nice Corbina later on while walking back. Using a micro with an owner mosquito instead of the standard treble. Saw a ton of sand crab beds and all of them had super micro crabs.
Hopefully more micros coming in a few weeks!

Kevin with a GREAT Corbina outing! If anybody follows him, he also had a fantastic hook mod on the micros. Thanks for the pics!

Headed over to the spot in the morning, waited in line for the 6am opening. When I was here last month, it was much darker in the morning and overcast. I kept seeing what I thought was kelp washing up on shore, but as it got lighter, it wasn’t kelp. Everything I saw were ALL Corbina. I saw over 20 different ones before 8am. I was seeing 2-3 of them in the skinny water at once and I thought for sure that the huge one I saw was a Spotfin. Anyways, onto today. High tide was around 8:30am, so everything was setting up except....I didn’t see any beds at all for a long way and the main spot had 90000% kelp in the water. One of the biggest salad bars I’ve seen because I kept reeling in pounds at a time and there was so much kelp, it looked like an ocean/shoreline of kelp soup all the way down to MB. Walked north about 600 feet and almost no kelp! Sand crab beds started appearing, but all of the sand crab beds had super micro sand crabs the size of pomegranate seeds. Very strong current heading north today. FFWD 4 hours and I walked so far north, I was almost in MDR. Made a cast next to a jetty, very slow retrieve and caught a nice Corbina, maybe 16-18”. After trying to find another, nothing else except for a lot of little perch pecking. Finally caught two of them then went home because the beach was completely swamped with people. Several guys out there surf fishing, a lot of guys out on the jetties. Items used: Micro top rigged with 8lb fluoro leader(~3’ long), 1 oz egg sinker.
