Press Strike Practice on the Bag
First of all, I know my hands aren't protecting my face! That's not the point of this exercise!
Press in the movement "Grasp The Peacocks Tail" has multiple uses, including locks (chin-na) and can be used as a strike as shown here.
I will post more videos showing it's usage, but the goal here was to generate power from the legs and lead with the body, not the hands. Perfect? No, but with practice anything movement can improve.

Preventing knee injury and strengthening the legs are of the utmost importance of tai chi. In my experience if you're movements are causing pain, then it's an issue with your bio-mechanics during practice, meaning how use your body when you practice and maintain good form. One of the rules for beginner and intermediate students is to never allow the knees to past the toes.
The knee in tai chi are always bent, or flexed. It can be done minimally, or with increased intensity as you progress. However, the goal is to reduce the bouncing up and down, as well as learn safe ways to stand on one foot and shift the weight.

Freestyle Fridays are a chance to use techniques in free form, bag work, shadow boxing..and kicking🙂
As you can see this is from 2024... A lot has happened since then.. a chance to reflect back, see where improvements can be made, and grow.
So the stance would be from an eagle claw empty stance which allows the leg to quickly act as an offensive or defensive measure, and to strike at any angle.
