šŸ”„šŸŒ·ARIANA ARIANA ARIANA šŸŽšŸŒŖļø

Who floats like a butterfly but stings like a bee? The friendliest and swaggiest with technique for days, get to know this powerhouse šŸ©·āļø it’s ARIANAšŸ¦‹šŸ

Tell us three things you’re into right now.
~Right now I’m really into dancing (always!), finding new music for playlists and choreography, and trying new recipes to cook up in the kitchen especially dessert. I also love anything that gets me outside with friends or lets me be creative, whether that’s filming content, modeling, or just exploring new spots around LA.

You instruct Body Dada the Class and also Body Party too. Tell us about the spirit you bring to each class and how it’s different.
~I think the biggest thing I try to bring to every class is a welcoming energy. I want people to feel comfortable the second they walk in, whether it’s their first class or their hundredth. For Body Dada, I try to push people to challenge themselves, but I never want them to leave feeling defeated. I want them to feel proud of themselves! Body Party is more about letting loose and having fun but still getting a burn! I just want everyone to forget about whatever’s going on outside the studio for an hour, dance around and leave with a smile!

Everyone comes out of your class smiling. I think it’s because you’re naturally just a sweet energy and seem to like what you do! Is there any advice you can give aspiring instructors on how to purposely have fun while teaching?
~My advice to new instructors would be to teach the class you’d want to take. I think when you’re genuinely excited about the music, the movement, and the people in front of you, that energy naturally spreads through the room. I also try to remember that every person who comes to class could be carrying something you know nothing about, so if I can make them smile for an hour or help them forget about everything else for a little bit, that’s a win.

Who is Lotte Berk ???
Lotte Berk is the creator of Barre.

Lotte Berk created Barre as a dance based physical fitness method. Prior to Lotte, the barre apparatus was only used in Ballet class. Lotte invented a fitness program that used the Ballet barre in a wholly new way.

Lotte Berk was a German-Born wife, mother, and professional dancer. In 1935 she fled N**i Germany (where she had trained with Mary Wigman) with her husband Ernest also a prominent dancer and choreographer, and their 4 year old daughter Esther for England where she danced with Ballet Rambert. In 1959 she began teaching her methodology out of her small basement apartment in London. She called this ā€œLotte Berk’s Studio of Physical Beauty and Culture.ā€ She was a radical feminist and embodied the s*xual liberation of the 60s and 70s.

Lotte discovered the ā€œPelvic Tuckā€ we all know and love with her osteopath while rehabbing a lumbar spine injury. She combined this and other therapeutic exercises with dance and created her barre class. While she called her method a ā€œRehabilitative Methodā€ she also viewed her program as performance art and is quoted by her daughter saying ā€œI don’t want to be known as a keep-fit person. I want to be known for my creative dance, my artistic talents, to be taken seriously as an Artist.ā€ Her method was actually more akin to the rigors of Modern Ballet and less classical. The method was intended to make you feel good in your body, as Lotte imbued sensuality and cheeky s*x appeal into the exercises she created.

Lotte’s daughter Esther Fairfax continued her mother’s legacy, teaching the class passed down to her in the UK into her 80s! (like her Mom!) and sadly passed in 2024. Esther is a legend in her own right.

Stretch + Chill to Lou Reed’s Hudson River Wind Meditations.

I just rediscovered this album. Hudson River Wind Meditations was Lou Reed’s final solo album. šŸŒŠšŸŒ€šŸŒŠ

ā€œI first composed this music for myself as an adjunct to meditation, Tai Chi, and bodywork, and as music to play in the background of life, to replace the everyday cacophony with new and ordered sounds of an unpredictable nature. New sounds freed from preconception. …over time, friends who heard the music asked if I could make them copies. I then wrote two more pieces with the same intent: to relax the body, mind, and spirit and facilitate meditation.ā€ - Lou Reed
