We’re grateful to have partnered with Toole Design Group, LADOT Official, and older adults across all five neighborhoods to help shape safer, more accessible streets. Centering residents’ lived experiences was essential to developing recommendations that support mobility, independence, and connection as people age.

Open Streets can do more than change how we move through a neighborhood. They can help us rethink what our streets are for.

Our Director of Urban Design + Planning, Alex Jung, recently spoke with The Beachcomber about the potential for Open Streets in Long Beach, including how temporary demonstrations can help communities test ideas, learn what works, and build toward more permanent public spaces.

Start your Saturday with a stroll and help imagine what an urban art trail could look like in Bixby Knolls.

Our partners at Long Beach Fresh are joining the Bixby Strollers and fellow urbanists on Saturday, August 29 at 7:15 AM for an Urban Trail Demo exploring ideas for a future art trail through the neighborhood. Meet at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at 4105 Atlantic Ave for free coffee, a brief presentation and Q&A, followed by a community stroll to explore ideas and share feedback.

Moon Park is making headlines!

The Los Angeles Times recently covered our Moon Park Reimagined engagement event with the City of Costa Mesa, held on the 57th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing that inspired the park’s name.

Community members gathered to share their ideas and help shape a renovation concept that reflects the needs of local families. It was one small step toward an exciting new chapter for Moon Park.

How can our coast be easier to reach for everyone?

At our recent Everyone’s Coast Open House at the Homeland Cultural Center in MacArthur Park, community members explored potential transportation and mobility improvements and shared feedback on how traveling to and from the coast can be safer and more comfortable.

The open house is part of Zone In: Everyone’s Coast, a partnership with the City Of Long beach to develop a mobility plan for central long beach as well as a zoning update to better-align community priorities for our coastal communities.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their ideas! Your input help helps shape recommend recommendations for a better, equitable Long Beach. The conversation continues and there will be more opportunities to share your voice!

Shalimar Park is entering a new chapter shaped by the people who call Costa Mesa’s Westside home.

The Los Angeles Times recently highlighted the groundbreaking for the park’s renovation and the community’s vision for a safer, more welcoming space that supports play, connection, and neighborhood pride. Planned improvements include an updated playground, new lighting, additional safety features, and a multi-use court that can serve as a small soccer field.

We are proud to support a project grounded in the experiences and aspirations of the Shalimar community.
