As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, I pause to reflect on this old flag hanging in the barn. The barn has stood for nearly 100 years, and every weathered board and every thread tells a story.

Every star reminds us of those who served. Every stripe reflects the enduring promise of freedom and the sacrifices made to protect it.

This Fourth of July, we celebrate more than our nation’s birthday. We honor the generations who fought to secure the freedoms we enjoy today, along with those who continue to defend them.

From our family to yours, let freedom ring, and happy 250th birthday, America!

Today we say good-bye to an old friend. A bull we purchased back in 2020 during the Covid era—which now seems like a lifetime ago. Purchased sight unseen, this turned out to be one of the best breeding decisions the ranch has ever made. GCC Equalizer (NMR Maternal Made x GCC Miss Wh***ey 5066), or Grizzly, as he was known here on the ranch, turned out to be everything we had hoped for. While his full brother, GCC Masterpiece was out winning Cattlemen’s Congress and the American Royal, Grizzly was living the life here on the ranch tending to his cowherd. He was quiet, didn’t tear up too many fences (he usually had help), and you had to halter and lead him to get him down a chute. Every year since, 90% of our replacement heifers have been sired by him. The daughters have been incredible; sound, stout, good uddered, all while having that fancy look. Needless to say, his legacy and his impact on our cowherd will continue to live on for years to come.
