Next up in our season kickoff series, our fearless leader, Coach Smitty, is stepping up to share his top 3 tips.
🔍 Be detailed with everything you do. Don't just go through the motions. Pay attention to the small details in every drill, every repetition, and every shift. The little things add up to big improvements.
👂 Be coachable. Being coachable is one of the most important keys to improving every part of your game. Listen, apply what you're being taught, and be willing to make adjustments. The best players never stop learning.
🔁 Make your 2nd and 3rd reps better than your 1st. Don't simply repeat the same mistake or movement. After your first rep, think about what you can do differently or better. Challenge yourself to improve with every repetition.

People ask us all the time what makes hockey special. Here’s our answer: it’s the close knit community you build along the way. These two were teammates in Finland. Now they’re competing against each other stateside. But when the last buzzer blows, no matter the outcome, they’re still brothers off the ice.

Such a surreal moment. Coach Jack got to coach alongside some Avs players and alumni during their annual Youth Development Camp.

We asked our coaches for their best three tips on how to dominate this upcoming season. Coach Moose is kicking this series off with his!
🧘♂️ During the season the most important thing is staying healthy. One phenomenal way to do that is to prioritize stretching and mobility work all season long. Hockey players are prone to tight hip flexors, glutes, and shoulders, so prioritize these to help you stay fast and mobile.
🏒 The bare minimum of outside work that hockey players should do is to stickhandle for at least 5 minutes a day. Small doses of daily work compound, and by the end of the season you'll be surprised at how much better you've become from just 5 minutes a day.
🎉 Lastly, HAVE FUN. Let's do a little experiment. Think about a time where you were playing your worst game of hockey. Now think about a time where you had your best game of hockey. I bet I can tell you the difference. You were most likely having the most fun playing your best game of hockey. All of you know how to play the game so don't grip the stick too tight and enjoy it. Remember, things are going to go really well, and the next second the world is ending. That's part of the game. Embrace the ups and downs. You'll have a better season for it!
If Coach Moose guessed it right and you were having fun while playing your best game be sure to let us know down in the comments!
