Come join us this fall as we take a scientific approach to skating in our new offer, offering, Valerio Speed Academy. Weekly on ice sessions, off ice "chalk talk" and a supportive curriculum book to support every technical nuance needed to be a top player.
Back when I started playing college hockey, I was fresh off a run of 14 national in-line speed, skating titles and an alternate on the world team (sprint of course). I had never picked up a stick, but when I hit the ice on hockey skates it was like I've been doing it my whole life. See, in speed skating everything is so precise and so technical, and I was able to break down, adjust and apply those precise mechanics to hockey. As a defenseman I had the best plus minus in the league on the top defensive line simply because I could catch any player and break up any play.
But the mechanics of skating have changed. If you look at short track speed skating 30 years ago, it is nothing like today because every couple of years we learn more about the biomechanics that make skaters better and faster. As someone who still speed skates, I have to be on top of those mechanics. As a skating instructor for hockey players, I bring the latest technical insights from the speed skating world to hockey and produce the fastest, and most technically sound players in the game, from peewees to pros.
Technology has brought us even more knowledge and everyday new studies are being conducted to determine how the body is able to better maximize force, production and efficiency on a blade. What both speed skaters and hockey players did 10 years ago is ancient history today.
Our Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are just about sold out, but we do have a couple of spots left in our Monday afternoon and Thursday morning sessions. Learn more at: https://apogeehockey.com/valerio-speed-academy/
