Look to your left as you enter the dojo for the lovely wreath donated in memory of our dear Lynn Frasier who left us last Thursday. Lynn trained in Tai Chi and Yoga at Unity for 13 years. She was already over 80 when she started! It was always a delight to see her come in the door with a big smile on her face and an even bigger broad sword under her arm.

She was a model for us of aging gracefully, and being willing to take on challenges and new disciplines no matter how far down the road we get. I loved getting to point people to her when they thought they were too old to start at forty.

The Road goes ever on and on
Out from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
Let others follow it who can!
Let them a journey new begin,
But I at last with weary feet
Will turn towards the lighted inn,
My evening-rest and sleep to meet.

Happy Throwback Thursday! Back in 2016, Sensei Tanner Critz tested for his 4th degree black belt (Yondan), selecting monkey form for his animal kata. This kata requires you to be fluid and playful while still exerting power, a balance that Sensei Tanner finds when performing. At Unity, we learn and practice these principles, enabling students to apply their own expression to katas!

Last Thursday, we had some fun recreating some 80’s style JC Penney catalogues! Though it is important for us as martial artists to hone our techniques and improve ourselves, community is equally at the center of our development journey. If you want to be a part of a thriving growing community in Central Arkansas, stop by Unity sometime and try out a class! You won’t regret it. https://www.unitymartialarts.com

Throwback Thursday! Back in 2019, Reilly obtained his black belt in Cuong Nhu martial arts. As part of the testing requirements, black belt candidates must be able to break multiple wooden boards, using a combination of hand and leg techniques. Though difficult, he broke each board set on the first attempt! If you want to learn how to break boards with your techniques, click the link below to sign up for a free class!

Throwback Thursday! Last December, Sensei Braelyn tested for their black belt, performing their kata, demo and other test components spectacularly! Their bo work and takedowns were super impressive, and clearly, their hard work paid off. If you want a safe space to learn martial arts and build community, look no further than Unity.
