What a day! Campers started by dropping off contributions to the food drive supporting the (Camp families -- the drive will continue through next week.....our camp "Christmas" season. Let's keep up the great work!). Then the morning assembly featured a big counselor "knockout" challenge on the basketball court......
But the highlight was what has become one of our peak moments of the summer -- our "Thanksgiving" family meal at one long table at the end of the lake! We are grateful to for their ongoing partnership in this special tradition. We are also grateful to our hard-working support staff (and some extra helpers today) who moved all those tables out and back on what was possibly the hottest day of the summer so far!
"We thank you for the wind, the rain, the sun, and pleasant weather. We thank you for this our food, and that we are together!"

As we move through our Thanksgiving Week ("Trails of Thanks") we give thanks for this little part (218 acres) of God's creation called Lake Nixon! It's our privilege and responsibility to take care of this place and share it with our community. We love that we have such a wonderful setting for classic "camp" experiences that's accessible to so many -- including many who might not otherwise attend a traditional overnight camp.
(The medals you see in some of the photos are awarded to some of our camper anglers after they make a great catch. We don't catch a ton of Catfish here, but they're around 🎣).

Week 6 ("Trails of Thanks") is well underway! We're thankful for both familiar faces and new friends this week. And we're grateful for the parents who entrust us with their campers as well as all the grandparents, siblings, family friends and others who help get them here and get them home each day!

Sunday afternoon thoughts: We can't wait for camp tomorrow!
We just wrapped up an incredible "Red, White, and Blue" week. There is truly no better place to celebrate than out in the great outdoors! Here are some more favorite moments from week 5 -- including the welcome surprise of some rain showers on a hot July day, and the chance (due to cooler weather and cloud cover) to have our closing assembly in the cozy area by the main fire pit.
We'll see our Week 6 campers on Monday morning to keep the summer momentum rolling with "Trails of Thanks" week! Parents, get the sunscreen ready—your kids are about to have a week packed with building confidence, exploring nature, and playing hard (i.e., coming home "happy, dirty, and tired").
Rest up, pack those water bottles (and sunscreen, and swim trunks, etc.) and we will see you at drop-off tomorrow morning!
As always, we are grateful to all of the generous individual donors, and our summer 2025 business sponsors who help make Lake Nixon financially accessible for more families!

Happy 4th of July from the front porch of Lake Nixon!
We just wrapped up an incredible Week 5 of camp, and there is truly no better place to celebrate than the great outdoors!
Today, we hope all of our camp families are enjoying a beautiful holiday filled with fresh air, shared laughter, and deep gratitude for the gift of this beautiful creation.
Have a wonderful, safe, and happy 4th of July!

In the essentials, camp days are almost identical. Yet no two camp days are even close to the same!!

What do we do at camp when it's hot?
Well, we keep on applying sunscreen, and stressing the importance of drinking water. The youngest campers keep on going indoors for afternoon rest and read time, and we rotate through the air-conditioned art/crafts building and "rec room."
We bring out the very popular misting fans for each pavilion.
. . . and we also create a makeshift pickleball court in the shade, and we move slingshots to a closer and shadier location so we can take aim at a bunch of ornery rubber duckies.
. . . and we just keep doing camp!

Another new week = more new friends and new adventures!
**Enrollment update: A new camper group is now open in weeks 6-8 (July 6 - 24) for campers entering 5th-6th grades (4th-5th this past school year). A small number of spots are also available for most other ages.**

And that's a wrap on Week 4 ("Lights, Camera, Action!"). Next week's feature will have lots of red, white, and blue.
Big thanks to Colonel Glenn for loaning us the stanchions for Thursdays' red carpet!
