Have you tried Iyengar yoga at Sixth House yet?
Join us this week to explore forward extensions. In forward extension both the front and back body elongate as the trunk folds out across the legs. Forward extension poses provide a great way to build flexibility and stability.
We will specifically focus on the Padanghusta action in which the fingers clasp the toes. A push-pull action between the toes and the fingers engages the shoulders, opens the chest, deepens the hamstring stretch, and creates anatomical traction to release the lower back.
The images show Padanghustasana with a concave back and with a forward fold, Padanghusta Dandasana, and Paschimottanasana.
Modifications and alternatives are always offered so that you can practice safely, in good alignment, and in accordance with your body's abilities and limitations.

Bring a friend, bring a glass of something nice, and give yourself permission to make something imperfect. Sixth House Wellness Studio is opening our doors for a casual, come-as-you-are painting evening as part of Downtown Partnership’s Second Friday Art Night.
No experience necessary, no critique, no pressure — just canvas, color, and a little quiet creative time in good company. All art materials are provided, so all you need to bring is yourself (and maybe someone you’d like to sit and paint beside).
Drop in any time between 5–8pm. Stay for five minutes or the full three hours :)

This week in our Iyengar yoga classes we will focus on standing poses.
Standing poses form the foundation of a strong yoga practice and help develop stamina, vitality, and bodily awareness.

When's the last time you tried a headstand? A handstand?
Inversions are an important part of an Iyengar yoga practice. An inverted position of the body involves bringing the legs and body above the head. Benefits of inversions include:
- improved circulation
- increased strength, balance, and courage
- a shifted perspective (literally and metaphorically!)

Alex Williams (San Dan) will be teaching beginner aikido Thursdays at 7-8pm. Aikido is a Japanese martial art that minimizes conflict and contention. The lessons on the mat transfer to daily life in countless ways. This class is free! So there’s nothing standing in your way. We’ll be focusing on the basics and core techniques while we reprogram your nervous system ;)
