Helping you overcome pain, get strong, gain confidence and stay active long term!

One of the hardest things I hear from patients is:

“I was told to stop lifting.”
“I was told to never squat again.”
“I was told to avoid jumping.”

Sometimes, temporary modifications are absolutely appropriate. But too often, people are told to give up the activities they love or indefinite modifications without anyone asking why those movements hurt in the first place.

My goal isn’t just to get you out of pain.

It’s to help you get back to the life you want to live.

That might mean lifting your kids, training for a race, playing pickleball, CrossFit, dancing, jumping or getting back in the gym with confidence.

A good provider should help you understand what your body can tolerate, build your capacity over time, and only limit movements when there’s a good reason, not out of fear.

If you’ve been told to stop doing something you love, don’t assume that’s your forever.

What’s an activity you’ve been told to avoid because of pain?

Your push-up isn’t wrong… but it might not be doing what you think.

Not every push-up should look the same.

One small change in your elbow position can completely change what you’re training (and how happy your shoulder is).

Elbows tucked closer to your sides = more triceps.
Elbows around 45° = more chest (this is where most people will feel strongest).
Elbows flared straight out = puts your shoulders in a much less favorable position and can increase your risk of irritation over time.

Does that mean your elbows should never flare? Not necessarily. Our bodies are adaptable. But if you’re dealing with shoulder pain, struggling with push-ups, or trying to build strength, this is an easy place to start.

Next time you do push-ups, pay attention to where your elbows go. You might be surprised how different it feels.

Which elbow position do you naturally use?

Most people think they need to avoid wrist extension…Your wrists don’t need to be babied, they need to be trained.

If a regular plank hurts, don’t jump straight to your fists. But also, don’t just avoid planking all together.

Instead, regress the movement while still giving your wrists a chance to adapt.

Start where your body can tolerate the load, then gradually work your way back.

Remember: modifications should move you toward your goal, not become your permanent solution. Your body adapts to what you ask it to do.

If every workout avoids wrist extension, your wrists never get the opportunity to become stronger in that position.

That doesn’t mean pushing through pain.

It means finding the right amount of challenge and gradually building your tolerance over time.

A little consistency goes a long way.

Your goal isn’t just pain-free workouts…

It’s having wrists that are capable of handling whatever life (or the gym) throws at them.

“My glutes don’t fire.”
“My core is weak.”
“My low back is weak.”

Maybe.

But what if nothing is actually “weak” or “not firing”, often the problem isn’t strength, it’s coordination.

If your low back always works harder than your core, your quads always dominate your hamstrings, or you never feel your glutes no matter how many exercises you do… your body may not need more effort. It may need better teamwork.

Strength matters. But muscles don’t work in isolation.

Not sure where the disconnect is? Click the link in our bio to come in for a complimentary discovery visit - the best way to find the problem is to watch how your body moves!

What if the thing supporting you… is also the thing your body stopped learning to do on its own?

Supportive shoes can absolutely have a place. But if your feet never have to do any work, they can become dependent on that support.

For most people, being able to comfortably walk around the house barefoot is a sign that the feet, ankles, and lower body are doing their jobs.

If barefoot feels uncomfortable, don’t force it. Start with:

5-10 minutes barefoot at a time
Toe mobility and foot strengthening exercises
Gradually decreasing your reliance on inserts or house shoes (if appropriate)

The goal isn’t to be barefoot 100% of the time. The goal is to build feet that are capable when you are.

How many of you wear shoes inside your house? 👇
