Hand on the rail, rifle braced against a wall, shooting through a port. Every bit of that pressure is going into the handguard.

Free float means the handguard mounts at the barrel nut and touches nothing else. Lean on it as hard as the stage requires. The barrel stays clear and the shot goes where it went on the bench.

This is the part that doesn't show up in a spec sheet. You hand somebody a rifle, they shoot it, and then you find out what they actually think.

Once the timer goes, there is no room left to think about the rifle. Position, targets, movement, that is where the attention goes.

The build has to be settled before any of that. Same break, same reset, no surprises. That is the whole job.

Twenty five years ago this morning, the country stopped.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the firefighters, police officers, medics, and ordinary people who moved toward the danger instead of away from it. We remember the families who still feel the absence every year.

Bench Tip: support the receiver before you drive anything.

A block that holds the receiver square does two things. It keeps the punch tracking straight through the pin, and it keeps the receiver from taking the load in a place that will show. Most of the marred receivers we see got that way before the punch ever moved.

That's who today is for. Machinists, fabricators, and everybody in the trades keeping shops like ours running.
