High school softball rule changes are coming in 2027. 🥎

The NFHS has approved several updates that coaches, officials, and athletic programs should know before the 2027 season.

Highlights include:

▪️ Pitchers can now receive one-way electronic communication from the dugout, joining catchers as the only players permitted to use the technology.
▪️ Clarified courtesy runner eligibility for starting pitchers and catchers.
▪️ Updated language on deflected fair balls to simplify interference rulings.
▪️ A new optional umpire uniform will also be available.

These changes are designed to improve game management, clarify rule enforcement, and support the continued evolution of high school softball.
