THROWBACK - CATCH & COOK 2026

Luke's incredible Black Impala is a reminder of just how diverse the Kalahari truly is. From iconic plains game to some of Africa's most unique colour variants, every day in the Kalahari offers something different.

For a bowhunter, this place is pure paradise. Whether you're tucked into a waterhole blind with game passing within metres, or putting your stalking skills to the test on a walk-and-stalk hunt, every opportunity is earned and every shot is unforgettable.

The Kalahari has a way of getting under your skin. Every hunt is different, every stalk tells a story, and every success is the result of patience, skill, and respect for the animal. That's what keeps bowhunters coming back to the Kalahari year after year.

This is the magic of the Kalahari.
This is the HTK Experience.

The Taste of the Kalahari!

A springbok rack of ribs from camp a while back — and certainly one of our favourites.

There’s something truly special about the full circle of the safari experience. The excitement of the hunt, the satisfaction of harvesting an animal, and then sitting around camp enjoying the very same game you pursued is an experience that stays with you.

At HTK Safaris, we believe the experience doesn’t end when the hunt is over. Exceptional game meals are a big part of the HTK experience, and we strive to provide some of the best game you’ve ever tasted.

From the Kalahari to the campfire, from the hunt to the table — this is what a true African safari is all about.

Gemsbok Hunting in the Kalahari!

There are few things that get the adrenaline going quite like a gemsbok hunt in the Kalahari. Two exceptional Gemsbok down during the morning session, and both hunts were a perfect reminder of why these animals are so special to hunt.

On this one, we stepped off the truck and immediately went into a spot-and-stalk. We picked up a good bull and slowly started working our way closer, carefully reading the terrain and every movement. Eventually, we found him bedded down.

Now came the hard part — waiting.

Gemsbok hunting is never easy. They are extremely wary, sharp-eyed animals, and one wrong move can end the stalk before it even begins. So we settled in and waited, knowing that patience could be the difference between getting an opportunity and watching the bull disappear into the Kalahari.

Eventually, he got to his feet.

For a moment, everything came together. He presented a beautiful broadside shot, and after all the tracking, crawling, waiting and anticipation, the opportunity we had worked so hard for was finally there.

That is what makes true walk-and-stalk hunting so rewarding. You earn every opportunity. You work with the terrain, learn the animal and slowly close the distance until you are presented with the closest and best possible shot.

The Kalahari has a way of producing exceptional gemsbok, but it makes you work for them.
What an adrenaline-filled morning, what an incredible hunt, and what a week we had in the Kalahari.

The Kalahari Stays With You!

There are places you visit, and then there are places that become a part of you. The Kalahari is one of those places.

Our latest group left with heavy hearts after an exceptional hunting vacation in the Kalahari.

Because somewhere between the long days in the bush, the tracks in the red sand, the excitement of the hunt and the evenings around the fire, something special happens. You stop being clients and outfitters and start becoming friends.

You share stories, laughter, challenges, successes and quiet moments. You get to know each other beyond the hunt, and before you know it, a group of people who arrived as strangers have become part of the HTK family.

The hunting is exceptional, but the Kalahari is about so much more than the animals.

It’s the people.
It’s the sunsets.
It’s the red sand beneath your boots.
It’s the campfire stories and the quiet moments.
It’s the wildness, the space and the feeling of being somewhere truly special.

And perhaps that’s why leaving is never easy.

Somehow, along the way, the Kalahari stops being just a destination.

It becomes a place you carry with you.

This one was earned!

Seven days of hunting. Miles and miles covered. Tracks followed, glassing points checked, bulls found—and bulls passed up because they simply weren’t the bull we were looking for.

There were moments when the Kalahari tested us. Long days, tired legs, but we kept going.

And then, finally, it all came together.
We found a old bull with the shape we had been searching for and the opportunity we had worked so hard for was finally there.

This is what true Kalahari track-and-stalk hunting is all about. No shortcuts. No easy answers. Just boots on the ground, reading tracks, following the bush, making the right decisions and having the patience to wait for the bull you came for.

When it finally happens, there’s nothing quite like it.
Seven days of hard work, one incredible Kudu, and a memory that will last a lifetime.

Congratulations on an absolutely incredible bull.
You earned every inch of this one.

The Kalahari. Raw. Wild. Authentic.

The Kalahari Is Still Delivering!

The last light of the day, an incredible stalk, and another memory made in the Kalahari.

We took this old Warthog two nights ago, and what a hunt it was. A proper stalk, plenty of patience, and one of those moments that reminds you why we love hunting this country so much.

The Kalahari is still delivering in full fashion, and we’re having an absolute blast this week.

But there’s more…

Last night we finally got our hands on an incredible trophy after hunting for it for seven days. The patience and persistence paid off—and you won’t believe what we found.

Stay tuned. You’ll see why it was worth the wait.

Hunting the Grey Ghost!

Totally free range! Totally exceptional!

What an incredible afternoon we had yesterday. After days of searching for the right bull and covering close to 20,000 hectares / 45,000 acres, we finally got it done.

One of the cattle guys spotted a old bull with cows out on the free range area, and we decided to take up the track. Three kilometres later, we were still tracking — truly free-range, walk-and-stalk hunting in its purest form.

Then, suddenly, the bull appeared right in front of us.
All that was left to do was stay calm, be patient and wait for the perfect opportunity. Eventually, he stepped into the open and presented the shot we had been waiting for.

220 yards across an open Kalahari pan. One well-placed shot, and the Grey Ghost was down.
This is what free-range kudu hunting is all about. Miles covered, tracks followed, patience tested and, when everything comes together, an exceptional bull earned the hard way.

Well done on a great hunt and an incredible Kudu.

Now the search continues for one more exceptional free-range bull.

Let’s see what the Kalahari offers us next.

08/05/2026

It has been a Springbok kind of week so far, with three beautiful rams already on the ground while our search for an old Kudu bull continues.

The Grey Ghost is certainly living up to its reputation this week. We've seen plenty of Kudu, but not the old, mature bulls we're after. At this stage of the season, patience, persistence, and putting in the extra miles are what make all the difference.

That's what keeps us coming back—the challenge, the pursuit, and the reward when it all comes together.

Now we wait to see what the Kalahari has in store for us today. With a bit of luck and plenty of determination, maybe the old Grey Ghost will finally step out.

Waidmannsheil!

A few days ago, we welcomed a new group of hunters to our Free-Range Kudu Camp on the edge of the Botswana border the best way we know how—with a toast of Amarula and the promise of an unforgettable week ahead.

Every Safari begins with new faces, new stories, and the excitement of what the Kalahari has in store. From that first welcome around the campfire to the first fresh Kudu tracks in the sand, it's these moments that set the tone for an incredible adventure.

The week is now well underway, and we're grateful to be sharing this wild corner of the Kalahari with another great group of guests.

Welcome to the HTK Safaris family.
