During the first 3 weeks of the school year, Jayhawk Tennis Center Academy Juniors took on a Junior Circuit, an L7 and an L6. Great job to all who competed: Clark Albrecht, Ellie Goetz, Everly Leonard, James Barrett, Liam Counley, Anton Milakhin, Ayden Shino and Adam Barrett.

A shout out goes to:
- Ellie Goetz winning Girl's 10 & under orange ball and Everly Leonard in 2nd place
- Clark Albrecht as an L7 B12's finalist
- Annelise Leonard winning L6 Girl's 12s
- James Barrett topping the consolations in L6 B12s AND
- Ayden Shino for his 2nd place finish in L6 B14s.

Competing is hard. Keep up the great work!

With school underway, there is still time to sign your kid(s) up for our Baby Jay, Team Red or Jayhawk Junior classes on Saturdays.

Why consider tennis? It is great way to teach gross motor skills and hand eye coordination. Baby Jay is that starting point for developing gross motor skills in the youngest and littlest in your house. Team Red and Jayhawk Juniors is the next stage of building hand eye coordination while learning tennis skills in elementary age kids.

Our top junior Jayhawk Tennis Center players just returned from around the country, finishing up the summer campaign at the National Hard Court championships. Coraline Albrecht played the Girls 12s in Georgia, while Alex Birkbeck played the Boys 14's and Miles Markham the 12's in Alabama. Eli Ward was on the Girls Battle of the Sections team in California, and Wyatt Markham stayed in Kalamazoo after the Boys Battle of the Sections for the Boys 16's, joined by JohnPaul Huston and Micah Ward in the Boys 18's.

It was a solid showing overall, with multiple players having multiple wins. Miles, though... wow. Yet another Jayhawk Tennis Center player breaking through on the national stage, although this one felt inevitable. After a quality singles outing, he ratcheted up the intensity and stormed to the doubles final, narrowly missing the title after being up a set and a break in the final. Still, it represents his first silver ball and we couldn't be prouder of him!

What a fantastic summer for all of our players, we appreciate all the hard work you've all put in, and we're excited to get after it during the school year!!

Life sometimes present you a bowl of cherries - as luck would have it, Alexey Milakhin has a large bowl!

These past few months, he has been ON FIRE with wins, playing both with his men's 3.5 league group as well as competing at tournaments in the valley in singles and doubles. We asked what his secret was to his 10-0 doubles wins with David Harrison - "confusing the opponents with I formation," and what he thought about these past few months , "pretty great!"

The Academy group just wrapped up their summer tennis training! The past two months was full of competition across the Valley for this crew: Oliver Hester, Madilyn Poole, Clark Albrecht, KJ Jacobs, Anton Milakhin, Juliet Oldberg, Huizhong Chao, Jacob Clutter, Tate Gilbert, Aiden Hixson, Anton Milakhin, Hina Tamura, Wren Stultz, Zavie Bierl, Sadie Markham, and Eli Risely. Here are a few highlights:

July L7:
1st Place - Oliver Hester (B16s) & Madilyn Poole (G18s)

July L6:
2nd Place - Wren Stultz (G12’s)
3rd Place - Huizhong Chao (G12’s) & Jacob Clutter (B12’s)

August L7:
2nd Place - Zavie Bierl (G16s) & Clark Albrecht (B12s)

August L6:
2nd Place - Zavie Bierl (G14s)
3rd Place - Sadie Markham (G12s)

The L4 and L5 Circuit are awesome, higher-competition tournaments that several of our players competed in! This crew wrapped up the summer with some nice wins: Ayden Shino, Cormac Wilson, Coraline Albrecht, Eli Risley, Andrew McCall, Aarnav Garikipati, Varun Garikipati, Keelee Nelson, Haley Turk, Lexi Shino and Jacob Clutter.

At the L5 in St. Louis, Lexi Shino had a stellar weekend. She placed 6th in singles (G12) and won doubles with her partner.

At the L5 Mixed Dominant Duo tournament in Tulsa, Coraline and her partner won their group. Coraline won all her singles matches, AND her doubles matches. Coraline also traveled to Colorado to play in a G14s L4. She placed 7th.

The L5 down in Oklahoma saw Aarnav in top form; taking 1st in doubles and 3rd in singles (B12s). Varun won the B14s in singles. Keelee placed 7th in G14s.

Way to go for taking on tough competition this summer! Have a great school year, we will keep working hard this fall!

Another national championship tournament… and another national champion from Jayhawk Tennis Center!! This time it was BOTH Wyatt Markham (that’s 3 in 4 months if you’re keeping track) and Micah Ward, as members of the Missouri Valley Battle of the Sections team.

This event features 8 players per team (4 18’s and 4 16’s), and each of the 17 sections sends a delegation. Missouri Valley is the smallest section to ever win this team event (or its predecessor known as Intersectionals), and this is the first Valley team to ever do it!

The Valley boys started with a dominant 7-0 victory over Southwest, and followed that up in the quarterfinals with a 5-2 win over Midwest. The semis were a perfect example of the character of this team, as they fell behind 3-1 to Texas… having dropped the first set in 2 of the the remaining matches. The more grim it looked, the louder the team got, willing the final guys to victory. And it came down to the youngest guy on the team - Wyatt, who clinched the win with gritty 3 set win.

The finals was a back and forth battle against Eastern, who were in the finals for the third straight year. Micah won his match quickly to boost the team spirit, avenging a loss to the same player he lost to at Easter bowl. Ultimately it came down to another 3 setter, with the final Eastern forehand sailing long… and the entire Valley contingent storming the court!

It was thrilling, historical, and magical — and now it’s over. The individual championships start this weekend, good luck to all of our players competing around the country!
