Character doesn't begin when the spotlight finds you. It's built long before that—in the lessons learned at home, the people who surround you and the values you carry with you.

For 2026 Hobey Baker Memorial Award recipient Max Plante, family has been an important part of that journey.

The Plante family is a reminder that while one name may be engraved on the trophy, the character behind that name is often shaped by a lifetime of support, example and shared values.

A special family. A strong foundation. And a legacy that goes far beyond the game. 🏒

For Abbey, character came down to something simple: how you treated the people around you.

She lived that out by making sure every teammate felt included, showing respect to opponents and officials, and always being willing to learn and adjust. She carried that same example into the Marshall youth program, where she gave back as a student coach.

A deserving High School Character Award recipient who showed that being a great player started with being a great person. 🏒

The Hobey Baker Memorial Award is about more than what happens on the ice. 🏒

Each year, the award recognizes an exceptional NCAA men’s hockey player who represents the very best of the game. Not only through skill and performance, but through character, leadership, sportsmanship and integrity.

To become a Hobey Baker Award recipient is to join a legacy of players who have left their mark on college hockey while representing something bigger than themselves.

Great players make an impact on the game. Great character leaves a legacy.

Some players earn respect through what they say. Others earn it through what they do.

Over four seasons, Fiona Campbell became a steady presence for Hall Conard, setting the standard with her work ethic, composure, and commitment to her team. A two-time captain, three-sport athlete, and outstanding student, she represented the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and coachability every day.

Her example on and off the ice made her a deserving High School Character Award winner.

For Bridger Kolesar, being a good teammate meant being someone the next generation could look up to.

Throughout his time at Chaska, he set that example through humility, effort, and a team-first approach, no matter who was behind the bench or beside him on the ice.

Those qualities made Bridger a deserving High School Character Award recipient. 🏒
