Las Vegas Capoeira Academy

Las Vegas Capoeira Academy The Las Vegas Capoeira Academy is run by Professor Viajante of Grupo Liberdade De Capoeira Capoeira classes in Las Vegas with Professor Viajante.

Capoeira is a unique blend of movement, song and music. At first glance one sees a circle of clapping onlookers, singing choruses in Portuguese to traditional call and response songs. In the center of the circle two capoeiristas move in what resembles a competitive dance. There is an acrobatic and beautiful avoidance of physical contact. The players’ movements display ritual, trickery and grace. Many moves involve headstands, handstands, cartwheels and other improvised movements. There are small rituals and gestures that season the games. Everyone’s style of play is very individual, and evolves with their experience in the art.

They say the brightest stars also burnout the fastest. 😢

Furacão was one of my favorite people in the Capoeira world. He would always welcome me enthusiastically to Brasil Brasil Cultural Center whenever I would come to visit for class or a Batizado. He was overflowing with charisma, joy, and youthful passion not commonly expressed in the world today. We became friends and he was always willing to support me, and attended 3 of our Grupo Liberdade De Capoeira - Las Vegas Batizados in 2018, 2022, and 2024. He could be the life of the party but also sit down and have a serious, heartfelt conversation. He was deeply passionate about Capoeira and learning, and would always listen in reverence to whoever was around that had something to teach him. He was truly a good friend and I was excited to see the man he was becoming. I am grateful to have known him but also deeply saddened and shocked by his passing. My deepest condolences to his family and Capoeira family. He was one of a kind and will forever be missed. I can't believe he is gone. 🙏🏼 💔🌪️🌟
