Here is a quick and easy sweep you can do for beginners when playing DeLa Riva guard.

04/21/2026

De La Riva is one of my favorite—and one of the most dynamic guards in Jiu-Jitsu. I love how it seamlessly connects to multiple open guard systems, giving you endless options.

One of my go-to attacks comes when my opponent is off-balanced to the inside… that’s where the magic happens. 🔺🔥

Today we’re breaking down one of the most effective guard attacks in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — turning the De La Riva guard into a tight triangle finish.

It all starts with off-balancing your opponent.
Control the ankle, extend your leg, and rotate them until they’re forced to post their hands on the mat.

💡 Key Detail:
Pull the ankle tight to your hamstring so they only have 3 points of contact — now they’re vulnerable.

From there:
➡️ Foot goes to the hip
➡️ Opposite leg shoots between their arms
➡️ As they try to recover… you snap the triangle into place

Now finish strong:
👊 Kids: squeeze your knees tight
👊 Adults: pull the head down for a faster tap

This is a perfect example of how control → off-balance → attack wins every time.

📍 Come train with us and learn how to turn small advantages into submissions.
