Throughout the month of September, LBOC will be highlighting members of our chapter and sharing their perspectives and journeys within basketball officiating.

This week, we highlight **Ivan Larumbe**, who works as a Recreational Sports Specialist at TAMIU, where he oversees the intramural program and helps train student officials.

Through his role, Ivan helps student officials develop skills that extend beyond the court, including **communication, leadership, teamwork, accountability, and professionalism**.

Ivan is also a **graduate student at TAMIU**, continuing to grow both personally and professionally.

For Ivan, officiating is an opportunity to stay connected to basketball, continue learning, and make a positive impact through the game.

🏀 **STAY WITH THE GAME. GRAB A WHISTLE** 🏀

Throughout the month of September, LBOC will be highlighting members of our chapter and sharing their perspectives and journeys within basketball officiating.

This week, we highlight **Eddie Cruz**, a veteran basketball official whose journey began as a college junior in 2002. Eddie officiated for 13 years before taking a 10-year hiatus and has now returned to doing what he loves most.

Along with officiating, Eddie spent **20 years coaching, including 8 years as a head coach**, giving him a unique understanding of the game from both sides of the whistle.

Away from the court, Eddie has dedicated the last **23 years as a Special Education Teacher**. Through officiating, he has found another opportunity to make a positive impact, stay connected to the game he loves, and be part of a team.

Throughout the month of September, LBOC will be highlighting members of our chapter and sharing their perspectives and journeys within basketball officiating.

This week, we highlight an official with 33 years of basketball officiating experience, beginning his career at just 18 years old. Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to officiate at the high school, collegiate, and ABA levels.

Some of his officiating accomplishments include:
• 33 years of basketball officiating experience
• 2003 High School Regional Tournament
• 2009 TAPPS Women’s State Championship Semifinal
• 2010 TAPPS Men’s State Championship Semifinal
• Numerous pre-district tournament championship games and other high-level assignments

As the 2025–26 season came and went, LBOC was left with countless impactful moments. From working alongside seasoned veterans to developing our younger and less-experienced officials, LBOC’s commitment to instilling our core values of Professionalism, Integrity, and Respect never wavered. Each experience strengthened our chapter and reinforced our commitment to the game we serve. As we move forward, LBOC will continue working tirelessly to elevate basketball officiating and proudly serve the Laredo basketball community and surrounding areas. Year 3, The Best is Yet To Be!!

To all officials: GSAC chapter will be hosting a camp from August 7–9, 2026, and we encourage everyone to attend. Varsity and JV boys’ and girls’ teams will be playing throughout the camp.

As LBOC wraps up its final week of Summer League play, we are excited to launch our first-ever Sharpening the Whistle Mentorship Academy. Throughout the month of June, our veteran officials have worked alongside our developing and aspiring officials, helping them grow both on and off the court. This week, we will focus on evaluation, feedback, and continued development as we prepare our officials for the next level.
