We’re getting close to this year’s Beaver Dash Bash, and we could still use a few more volunteers to help make the day a success!

The event is Saturday, September 19 at Oakdale Trails in Lapeer, and there are plenty of ways to help — registration, course support, cheering on participants, setup/cleanup, parking, and more.

You don’t have to race or ride to be part of the fun. Volunteering is a great way to support the event, the Oakdale Trails, and the local community.

🦫 BDB Behind the Scenes: Why isn't the Elite Open a 3-lap race?

This is something we've talked about quite a bit over the past couple of years.

When we introduced the Elite Open, one of the first questions was, "Why not make it three laps?"

The short answer is... logistics.

Right now, we don't know how many Elite riders we'll have. We wanted to introduce the class first and see how it grows before making it an even longer race.

Another challenge is course traffic. A three-lap race would likely mean Elite riders catching more recreational riders and beginners on later laps. While passing is part of mountain bike racing, we also want to make sure everyone, from first-time racers to experienced competitors, has a great experience on the trails.

Could we start the Elite race earlier? Maybe. But the Beaver Dash Bash isn't just a mountain bike race anymore.

Our day includes a 5K Cross Country Run, the new 5K Ruck, youth mountain bike races, kids races, and multiple mountain bike classes. Every event has to fit together so volunteers, timing, parking, staging, and the overall race experience run smoothly.

As the Beaver Dash Bash continues to grow, we'll keep evaluating the schedule and making changes where they make sense. We're always listening to feedback and looking for ways to improve the event while keeping it fun and welcoming for everyone.

🦫 BDB Behind the Scenes: Why did we reverse the course this year?

One of the things we love about the Beaver Dash Bash is keeping things fresh.

While many races keep the same course year after year, we like to switch things up and give riders a new challenge. The trails at Oakdale have a lot to offer, and changing the direction can completely change how a section feels.

We know reversing the course means removing the big climb that many riders have come to know as one of the defining challenges of the race. But that section now becomes a completely different test: a fast downhill into a technical right-hand turn that will challenge riders in a new way.

The course is different, but it is still Oakdale. It will still reward fitness, skill, and smart riding.

And for those chasing the finish line... coming off the Damill Drop should make for one fast and exciting sprint to the finish!

We can't wait to see how everyone tackles the new direction on September 19. 🦫🚵
