The Step It Up Method consists of mantras that we’ve developed and cultivated over the last sixteen years.

“In order to achieve unusual results, one must take unusual measures.”
This is THE mantra Camp Step It Up was founded upon.

Open Heart, Open Mind
If our campers arrive and agree to open their hearts and open their minds, together we can accomplish nothing short of greatness.

Game Speed, Game Like
The pace at which we train is intense. It’s precise. It’s efficient and even overwhelming to our opponents. Your campers will learn how to make quality decisions in real time under pressure. This ensures that they can succeed on the basketball court and in high pressure situations in life far beyond the Camp Step It Up setting.

Attention To Detail
In everything we do. They say G-d is in the details. This fully resonates with us. In the way we teach basketball and in our curriculum on and off the court.

Good Breeds Good
This mantra is especially near and dear to my heart. We teach our campers to love themselves and love one another. Honor their bodies and honor the game of basketball. As I always say, “Love this game and respect it and this game will give you back more than you ever imagined.” Good breeds good also pertains to bullying. We have zero tolerance for kids or staff who are not kind and thoughtful. Step It Up campers will learn how to communicate in a positive and respectful way which is ultimately a gift to self. Being good to others is essentially being good to ourselves.

Positivity Breeds Positivity
An optimistic outlook on life is not only necessary, it’s also quite enjoyable. We will teach our campers to manifest and think positively to achieve their goals and dreams.

Don’t Hope, Just Do
One of my favorites. With brains, courage, and hard/smart work anything can be done. Anything. I always tell the kids that “We’re not building spaceships” meaning all of their goals are attainable. We want them to internalize this and double down on themselves during these formative years of their lives.

Mike and I grew up in Boca Raton, Florida together. Two kids with hoop dreams. Our basketball journeys took us on different paths. After high school I headed to Hofstra in New York to pursue my D1 dreams. Mike headed to Boston some years later to play at Leslie College. Following my college career I played one year or pro ball in Israel and then started Step It Up.

Following his college career Mike came and worked for me when I first launched sleep away camp. That summer we would stay up late and talk about life. It was then that Mike expressed interest in continuing his playing career professionally in Israel.

As I was lucky enough to play pro ball in Israel I made it my mission to help as many of my players and friends turn their dream into a reality as well. We set up some tryouts and Mike flew to Israel, showed out and signed a pro contract. We did it. Mike did it. He lived out his childhood dream.

Following that season, in the summer of 2014, Mike and I sat on the beach in Tel Aviv and celebrated his hoop dreams coming true. The date was September 10, 2014. Exactly ten years ago, today.

Years later our paths continued to cross as Mike did an piece on as we were preparing Yam for the NBA Draft.

Fast forward to 2024. I am living out my dream making major impact in the skill development and camp space. Mike is one of the most notable social media basketball influencers in the world, regularly rubbing shoulders with the greatest athletes on the planet. Both of us living out our childhood dream. Educating and inspiring the next generation of dreamers. Thank you to basketball and the universe for bringing us together. To many more experiences and feats together. Next lunch is on me 😉
