60+ young sailors, two days of racing, and two Lake Forest sailors headed to Nationals! ⛵️

Last weekend, the Lake Forest Sailing Program hosted a National qualifying regatta for the Opti Class, welcoming young sailors, coaches, and families from across Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

And what a weekend it was! Two Lake Forest sailors qualified for Nationals, while another narrowly missed qualifying by just one spot. Several team members made big improvements over their previous qualifying events. Our Green Fleet sailors (beginning racers) took part in their first regatta and got a firsthand taste of competitive sailing.

Beyond the results, weekends like this are what recreation is all about: young people building skills, confidence, friendships, and a love for being active.

The regatta also gave our visitors a chance to experience something Lake Forest knows well — our beautiful lakefront. Sailors, coaches, and families shared plenty of positive feedback about the beautiful setting and our sailing facility.

We’re proud of all of our sailors and grateful to Head Coach Cris Vivas Ortiz for her leadership and dedication to the program.
