Tangos, milongas & valses #334 is ready for attentive listening and practice.

The playlist brings together 42 recordings in 11 tandas: 36 tangos, three milongas at tracks 13-15, and three valses at tracks 24-26. The tango tandas alternate vocals and instrumentals, balancing rhythmic energy, melodic expression, and emotional contrast while preserving a coherent character within each tanda.

Listen for the range from Adolfo Carabelli, Ricardo Tanturi, Angel D'Agostino, Carlos Di Sarli, Miguel Calo, Juan D'Arienzo, Rodolfo Biagi, Alfredo Gobbi, Anibal Troilo, Enrique Rodriguez, and Osvaldo Pugliese. Let the changes in pulse and feeling inform your embrace, your self-control, your improvisation, and the conversation with your partner.

Listen, save the playlist, and keep the PDF nearby during practice.

Musical freedom depends on physical organization.

Posture, balance, walking, and pivots are not separate technical achievements. They allow the dancer to receive information, wait without collapsing, change direction, and communicate an intention without tension or urgency.

In Listening with the Whole Body, we will return to these foundations as conditions for hearing and responding more clearly. The aim is not to manufacture a musical effect, but to make the body available for choice.

Join us Sunday, October 4, from 2:00-4:00 PM Pacific Time, in person in San Francisco or live online. No partner is required.

I invite you to Listening with the Whole Body: Musicality, Partnership, and Tango Culture.

Musicality is not decoration placed on top of steps. It begins when the whole dancer becomes available to the music, to oneself, to a partner, and to the community around the dance.

During this workshop we will listen, move, work with partners, and talk about what makes a musical response possible: physical and emotional self-control, posture, balance, walking, pivots, improvisational structure, Tango culture, and social attention.

Sunday, October 4, 2026, 2:00-4:00 PM Pacific Time. Join in person at La Pista Tango School in San Francisco or participate live online. No partner is required.

Tangos, milongas & valses #333 is ready.

I selected these 43 recordings as a conversation between contrasting tandas: Lomuto's instrumental clarity, Caló with Raúl Iriarte, Tanturi instrumentals, Demare's milongas, Di Sarli, Rodríguez with Armando Moreno, valses by Rotundo, Basso, and Troilo, then Biagi, De Angelis with Carlos Dante, Pugliese, and D'Arienzo with Alberto Reynal.

Each tanda keeps its own character. Listen in order with shuffle off so the shifts between instrumental and vocal, rhythmic and lyrical, can do their work. Juan D'Arienzo's instrumental "La Cumparsita" brings the traditional close.

Here is a new listening journey for dancers: “Tangos, milongas & valses #332.”

Its 43 recordings form 11 contrasting tandas that travel back and forth through tango history. Instrumental and vocal performances alternate with rhythmic and lyrical orchestras, while tangos, milongas and valses from different recording periods keep the experience varied and engaging on the dance floor.

The orchestras include Juan D’Arienzo, Miguel Caló, Alfredo De Angelis, Pedro Laurenz, Lucio Demare, Aníbal Troilo, Francisco Canaro, Carlos Di Sarli, Edgardo Donato, Osvaldo Pugliese and Héctor Varela. The final selection is “La Cumparsita,” the traditional closing tango at a milonga.

Tangos, milongas & valses #331 is a 43-track journey built for the dance floor, tanda by tanda.

Vocal orchestras alternate with instrumentals. Lyrical and melodic performances give way to more rhythmic ones; profound moods are balanced by lighter turns. Tracks 13–15 are milongas, tracks 24–26 are valses, and the rest are tangos.

The playlist closes, as tradition asks, with Juan D’Arienzo’s 1951 recording of La Cumparsita.

Listen on Spotify or Apple Music, save the playlist, and explore the complete track list in the PDF, including titles, orchestras, singers or instrumental designation, and rhythms.

What does it really mean to be a good Tango dancer?

It is not simply the ability to perform impressive figures or reproduce the appearance of Tango. It is the capacity to remain organized, present, sensitive, and capable of choosing, even when balance, certainty, or expectation is disturbed.

This new article explores how self-command, technique, patience, attentive practice, resilience, restraint, connection, and belonging transform weakness into capacity.
