I need some opinions
I've been seriously thinking about shrinking our soft plastic color lineup down and focusing a lot more on single colors, with fewer laminates.
I haven't made my mind up yet, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense for a few reasons.
1. Our baits are SMALL.
A lot of the stuff we make is really thin. With a bigger bass bait you've got enough plastic there for two translucent colors to show really well.
On some of our little creek baits, you just don't.
I've found myself having to make colors more opaque just so you can actually see the laminate when you're looking down at the bait. And honestly, I don't know that I like doing that.
I'd rather make a really good translucent color that looks right in the water than make it more opaque just so I can say it's a laminate.
2. Time.
Y'all have kept us BUSY. ๐
Laminates simply take longer to make. That's not a huge deal when you're making a few bags, but when you're trying to keep hundreds of different combinations stocked, it adds up fast.
I'd rather spend that time keeping the stuff you guys actually fish in stock.
3. Space.
This one is getting a little stupid. ๐
With all the different baits and colors we make, I'm getting close to 500 different soft plastic variants.
That's 500 different things that potentially have to be made, bagged, labeled, organized and somehow found when somebody orders it.
I ain't got that much room. ๐
4. The more I learn about color underwater, the more I think LESS might actually be MORE.
This is probably the biggest reason I've been thinking about it.
Fish can absolutely see color, but what we see holding a bait in our hand isn't necessarily what a fish sees underwater.
Water clarity changes things. Light changes things. Depth changes things. Contrast and silhouette matter. Opacity matters. Even what species you're fishing for matters.
And it's made me start looking at our colors differently.
Instead of asking, "Does this color look cool?"
I'm starting to ask, "What does this color actually DO?"
Does it give a good silhouette in stained water?
Does light pass through it naturally in clear water?
Does it imitate something that actually lives in these creeks?
Does it give enough contrast for a fish to pick it out?
And do I already have three other colors doing basically the same damn thing?
That's the part that's really got me thinking.
I'd almost rather have 10 or 12 REALLY good colors where I can tell you exactly why each one exists than have 20 or 30 just because they all look good hanging on the wall.
And I'm starting to wonder if we've just got too many choices anyway.
Hell, sometimes I look at our color list and don't know what I'd pick. ๐
I can only imagine somebody finding us for the first time and trying to decide between all of them.
Now, I'm NOT talking about getting rid of laminates completely.
We've got some laminates that have become part of what we do, some that really do give you something different in the water, and probably a few that y'all would come beat on my door if I discontinued. ๐
Those aren't what I'm talking about.
I'm thinking more along the lines of having a really dialed-in group of core colors, keeping the laminates that actually deserve to be there, and then still doing the weird stuff as limited colors, seasonal colors and special drops.
That way when we make a new permanent color, it actually has to earn a spot.
It needs to do something the others don't.
So before I go changing a bunch of stuff, I want to hear from y'all.
If you could only keep 10โ12 of our colors permanently, which ones are you saving?
And probably the bigger question...
Which laminates are absolutely UNTOUCHABLE?
Because I have a feeling I'm about to find out real quick which ones I better not mess with. ๐

I've had a few customers that have stated the website will not let them select the color they want or it os not changing the color when they select it. Has anyone else had this issue or could some of you please try to replicate this so we can possibly pinpoint the issue? Thank you!
