Three things that stood out to Alexis from today's NAMAS webinar on auditing diabetes encounters:

1️⃣ Diabetes is rarely "just diabetes." Every patient encounter tells a bigger story.

2️⃣ Audit the encounter, not just the code. Documentation should accurately reflect the patient's complexity, medical decision-making, and the care provided.

3️⃣ Favorite quote of the day: "If you thought it, document it." If it isn't documented, the medical record can't tell the complete story.

Today's session with Danielle Bagnell was filled with practical auditing insights that can help strengthen documentation, support accurate coding, and improve provider education.

What was your biggest takeaway from today's webinar?

A sincere thank you to Danielle Bagnell for presenting today's Audit the Encounter webinar, Not Just the Code: Diagnosing the E/M Level in Diabetes Management, to our NAMAS members.

Thank you for sharing your expertise and providing practical guidance on evaluating E/M services in diabetes management. Your real-world insights and educational approach gave our members valuable tools to strengthen documentation review, improve audit accuracy, and confidently support compliant coding.

Is physician pushback really about disagreement... or is there something deeper going on?

Many auditors assume resistance means a provider is unwilling to change. In reality, it often stems from time pressure, workflow habits, change fatigue, or frustration with growing documentation demands.

The most effective physician educators don't focus on winning the argument. They focus on understanding the reason behind the resistance and helping providers make meaningful, sustainable improvements.

Watch this quick short to learn why viewing pushback as feedback, not defiance, can completely change your approach to physician education.

NAMAS Weekly SpotLight 07.14.2026: When Physician Pushback Isn't Really Pushback 07/14/2026

Why do physicians push back during education?

It isn't always because they disagree.

More often, resistance is driven by time pressure, workflow disruption, change fatigue, or frustration with documentation demands that seem disconnected from patient care.

The most effective physician educators don't focus on winning the argument. They focus on understanding the reason behind the resistance, building trust, and helping providers make meaningful, lasting improvements.

In this week's Spotlight, discover why the best physician educators don't fight resistance, they understand it, building stronger relationships and better educational outcomes.

NAMAS ProTip Weekly 07-10-2026: HCC Coding: More Than Just a List of Diagnoses 07/10/2026

What does accurate HCC coding really require?

It's more than selecting diagnoses that map to risk categories. It requires documentation that clearly demonstrates the patient's current clinical status, supports medical decision-making, and accurately reflects the complexity of care.

Our latest blog, "HCC Coding: More Than Just a List of Diagnoses," explores why risk adjustment is about telling the patient's story, not simply checking boxes. Learn how stronger documentation improves compliance, supports audit defensibility, and ensures risk scores align with clinical reality.

A special thank you to Amy Wheeler for sharing her expertise and helping bring this valuable resource to the auditing community.
