Say heyyyy to Shaunah! 🙌

She rides : Kona HeiHei Singlespeed: 34/22, Trek Checkpoint, Norco Optic

She races: Endurance XC and Gravel. Technical riding makes her heart happy. 😈

Her fave ride snacks: Albanese gummy bears or a classic coke, for the long hauls.

Must have gear: Glitter. Everything is better with glitter. Suffering in a race? At least you’re sparkly. Having a time of your life on this ride? Of course you are, you’re wearing glitter! Spending a Sunday with Little Bellas in the woods? Better bring the glitter! ✨

Shaunah shared her racing focus this season: “Have fun on the bike! Have already knocked out my favorite race of the year, The Appalachian Journey Gravel this spring with Missy Petty! Excited for my fall portion of the season! Then roll into some classic events I adore, like Hardford and Hill of Truth 12 hr. Looking forward to mixing in some new additions like the Mountaineer in VA. I always get excited for new to me routes/territory! Ladies, come join me! My goal of getting more ladies to the start line is a given every year! Let’s party!” 🎉

Put your hands up for our sponsor @ 71South. 🙌

71 South is a casual, family friendly restaurant located in the heart of the Urban Wilderness in Knoxville. Their building happens to be part of one of the oldest churches in Knoxville, dating back to the 1930s. Their backyard is Baker Creek Preserve, home to nationally recognized mountain biking trails—where you will find many Neons ripping about.

High fives all around for this team, who has supported us financially and recently spent time chatting wtih us about how to get . We could’t be more thrilled to rep their business on our jerseys. And we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them.

Thank you, 71 South!

What a night on the trails at IC King! The 11.24-mile XC mountain bike course packed nearly 1,000 feet of climbing and plenty of twists and turns, all served up in classic Tennessee summertime heat & humidity.

For Sharon, the evening was all about stepping outside her comfort zone. A self-described roadie and “champagne gravel” rider, she took on her first local XC mountain bike race after some encouragement from Trace. While the root sections were challenging, she found herself gaining confidence lap after lap and improving her skills as the race unfolded! More importantly, she discovered that trying something new can be a lot of fun. 💥

For Trace, this race marked a major milestone. Not only was it a return to competition, but she also crushed her previous practice-loop time by 15 minutes, proving that resilience, patience, and determination can pay off. The effort earned her 1st place in the Women’s Sport 40+ category. 🥇

A huge thank you to Knox Bike Racing for continuing to create opportunities for our cycling community to test our grit, build confidence, and enjoy our local trails together. 💙

📣 Introducing Rachel!!

As team treasurer, Rachel has contributed to so much behind the scenes at Neon. She rides and races a variety of bikes, including a Trek Emonda, Trek Checkpoint, Rocky Mountain Element, and a new Specialized Epic HT.

With a focus on gravel, cross-country mountain biking, and cyclocross, she enjoys racing across disciplines. You’ll catch her many days training on the Boulevard with the road bike.

She started riding mountain bikes in 2016 and entered her first race—the Dirt Diggler gravel race—in September 2021. 🙌

Some of Rachel’s favorite cycling essentials are her iconic classic cycling cap and Glacier Freeze Gatorade powder. 🧢

This season, she is focused on maintaining consistent strength training while balancing racing and training with family life.

Outside of cycling, Rachel enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, and one of the highlights lately has been reaching the stage where her whole family can ride together. She also enjoys volunteering with various community organizations.

Back in action. 💪

Last week Kimberly raced Race 1 of the Laramie Mountain Bike Series.

She tackled 12 miles and 1,200 feet of climbing during some of the wildest conditions she can remember, with winds over 30 mph and gusts topping 50 mph! This meant pedaling hard everywhere—even on the descents after the 45-minute climb to start the course!

She finished 4th out of 6 in the Advanced Women’s field, but the result wasn’t what made this race special.

She says: “After breaking my hand in January, this was my first mountain bike race back. Spending much of the winter in a cast made me appreciate simply being out on the trail again. The biggest challenge wasn’t the climb or the wind—it was learning to be kind to my out-of-shape self and remembering how fortunate I am to be riding again.” 🙌

Shoutout to Aaron Ross at Link Cycling for the bike fit, which has helped her back and hip enormously.

While the Appalachian Journey did not have the lead-up Shaunah and Missy planned, they still showed up and finished–stronger than expected. The two of them were hit with sickness and even debated a bailout the night before. 😅

The goal for the day became–just keep moving and hoping to stop only once at mile 46, steady pace, and take on every punchy climb (yes, even those 20%+ grinders) one at a time. Fueling and hype were dialed—no bonks, just grit, laughs, and a lot of high fives.

The duo format made it all the more special. Showing up for each other, staying present, and pushing through the highs and lows together was everything. The two thought they were last all day in a stacked field… so finishing 6 midpack felt like a huge win!

Grateful for this journey, this community, and getting to share it side by side. Emily and Gordon have a great race dialed in. Shuanah is excited to give their other event, The Mountaineer, a go in November.

⚡️Introducing Lisa Mueller!!! ⚡️

Lisa is the newest Neon to our team but a familiar face in the local cycling scene! What has this woman NOT DONE?!

We are honored she is racing with us this year! You’ll be catching her out on the trails riding her 2023 Trek Fuel EX 9.8 - “Sisu,” a 2020 Trek Rail 9.8 “Artemis,” or her 2019 Trek Boone 7 “Zippy.”

Lisa has been seriously riding MTB since 2014 and her first race was 12 Hours of the Hill of Truth in 2015 on a women’s team. She raced on a borrowed bike and Neon Missy was on the competing team! That borrowed bike led to her first real full suspension bike, Prince, in 2016.

When Lisa’s not riding you’ll find her out on the trails with her 4 dogs, aka the Mueller Menagerie, gardening, working on her personal training certification, or finishing her degree in Organizational Management.

Look for Lisa showing up and speeding by!
