What would you want your last 10 years on Earth to be like?

Do you still want to walk without assistance?

Do you want the ability to pick up your grandchildren from their cribs?

Dr. Peter Attia calls the last 10 years The Marginal Decade.

He states that you won't know when it happens, but you'll know when you're in it.

So what he does is work backward from the goal:

If you want your last 10 years to be enjoyed, you need to be functional in both brain and body.

If that were to happen, then what would need to be done now to make that a reality?

This is why we need to take care of our bodies through the 4 pillars:

1.
2.
3.
4. management

The sooner you get started, the better your marginal decade will be.

How do you plan to stay active and engaged as you age?

Research on loaded carries, particularly the farmer's walk, shows that it recruits nearly every major muscle group simultaneously because the body must generate force while continuously stabilizing itself under load.

Electromyography (EMG) and biomechanical studies led by Dr. Stuart McGill at the University of Waterloo, published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and Ergonomics, found that farmer's walks create exceptionally high activation of the forearms and grip, trapezius, rhomboids, latissimus dorsi, deltoids, rotator cuff, rectus abdominis, obliques, quadratus lumborum, erector spinae, glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves.

Unlike many traditional exercises that primarily target one movement pattern, the farmer's walk requires these muscles to contract continuously to stabilize the spine, maintain posture, resist side-to-side movement, and propel the body forward with every step. This combination of whole-body muscular tension, core stiffness, and functional movement makes the farmer's walk one of the most comprehensive full-body strength exercises studied in sports science.
There are many variations and we use them all Daily here.
