A lesser known public fact: the Melges 24 is actually a comfortable and spacious cruising vessel! It can easily accomadate 4 adult sized dudes on lengthy trips to Alaska. If you enjoy leg cramps, voiding in buckets, zero head room, and relentlessly defending your possessions from the salty elements 24 hours a day in exchange for ripping speeds and maneuverability, then this is the boat for you!!!

It's hard to believe this is the same boat in both pics! Top is right after we bought her last October.... Bottom is the morning of the start of R2AK in Victoria. In 8 months she endured a heck of a makeover. We have been de-r2AKing her since we've been back so we'll be allowed to race locally......apparently pedal drives are not allowed in one design....who knew!! Our noble steed is packed up and ready to be shipped back down to Seattle after an incredible journey. We have a serious new found respect for this boat which carried us through 750 miles of water it was never designed for. Mad respect little melges. Huge thank you to Alaska Marine Lines who will delivering her safely back home. Barge leaves tomorrow and so do we.
