Some antlers are easier to say goodbye to than others. 😭

Who else gets a little attached to the good ones?

Yeah… we’ve got a few antlers. 😂

Whitetail, elk, axis, fallow, red deer, sika and more — all sorted, graded and ready to ship.

This is what The Antler Store looks like behind the scenes.

What would you do if you had five minutes alone in here? 👀

“If you build it, they will come.”

So I built a store full of antlers.

Turns out… they came. 😂🦌

It looks brutal, but it’s a completely normal part of the antler cycle. 🦌

As testosterone rises late in the growing season, antler growth stops, mineralization accelerates, and blood flow through the antler declines. The velvet eventually dies, dries and is rubbed away—revealing the hardened antler underneath.

And that common explanation that the burr simply acts like a “tourniquet” and shuts everything off? The actual biology is more complicated than that.

One of the coolest things about antlers is that even after decades of research, there are still parts of this process scientists are working to fully understand.

Antlers are pretty incredible when you think about it.

While an antler is growing, it’s living tissue—complete with blood vessels and nerves. The soft skin covering the growing antler is what we call velvet.

Over the next couple videos, we’re going to follow what happens as that velvet antler becomes the hard antler most of us recognize.

There’s a lot more to antlers than meets the eye. 🦌

We spend every day around antlers at The Antler Store, but the biology behind them might be even more interesting than the antlers themselves.

Thinking about mixing a little more wildlife and antler education into our normal content. What do y’all think—want to see more of this?
