The Slow and Steady Hiker
I am a middle-aged mom and college professor with a love for hiking, especially to waterfalls. I may be slow but I'm making my way to beautiful places.
In 2020 I got divorced and started pursuing a long time interest of mine-visiting waterfalls. What I learned was that waterfall chasing involves a lot of research, planning, and a lot of hiking! So I became the slow and steady hiker!

The hike to Ouzel Falls in Rocky Mountain National Park is so rewarding because you pass Copeland Falls and Calypso Cascades in the process. I learned from the interpreter at the start of the trail that the falls is named after a bird that dips in and out of the water there. We did see the ouzel birds at a lower cascade. Trail is about 6 miles round trip, 900 feet elevation going up to around 10k but it feels like so much more coming from Georgia. I. Colorado they fondly refer to us as lowlanders.

Hike to Hemlock Falls at Moccasin Creek State Park followed by a little swing time overlooking Lake Burton. This is a lovely trail that mostly follows the creek and there were a number of impressive, full Cascades before the falls as a result of recent rain.

The hike to Moore Cove Falls is a 1.4 mile round trip hike in the Pisgah National Forest. After a lot of rain the area was alive with snails, mushrooms and a good flow of the falls.
