"Great trainer and nutritionist. My son started training with Mike in July 2020 and by Christmas he lost 50 lbs! Feels better, lowered his BP and he follows the nutrition guide faithfully. I also started training with Mike, and he ensures we are correctly training and is very encouraging!

I feel fantastic working with you!"

Great work here by Mark Green!

Ever since switching to early morning workouts I have been looking for different breakfast / post workout options besides the usual oatmeal with a scoop of protein powder or egg & veggie omelettes.

My new favorite way to start my day is to make this simple high protein french toast.

For less than 350 calories if you use the base recipe you get a filling meal that is high protein, moderate carb, & low fat which is perfect following intense training sessions.

Trying to lose weight? Just have the recipe as written. Looking to gain some size? Then go crazy with toppings, switch the whites out for whole eggs, or swap the pam out for some butter.

Give the following recipe a try and make it your own to fit your own calories & macros for the day. I know you will love it! đź’Ş

Ingredients:
5 Slices Low Calorie Bread (I use 647 Schmidt Wheat Bread)
250 g of Egg Whites
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
1 packet of zero calorie sweetener of choice (I use Monk Fruit)
2 Tbsp of zero calorie pancake syrup (I use Walden Farms)

1. Heat non-stick pan & spray with pam.
2. Measure, combine, & stir egg whites, cinnamon, baking powder, and sweetener together.
3. Dip slices of bread in egg white mix then place in pan.
4. Flip after golden (usually around 2 mins per side)
5. Top with pancake syrup and whatever else you can fit into your macros for this meal.

Nutrition for Base Recipe
Calories: 344
Protein: 38g
Carbs: 34g
Fats: 3g

Enjoy & let me know if you give this one a try!

Decided to look back from when I decided to start my 1st contest prep and this past weekend.

Seeing this puts a few things in perspective. In particular it is amazing how much change can be made in a short amount of time when action follows intention.

I am happy, but not satisfied. This was such an eye opening experience, and now is the time to review and reflect on what I can improve on to become Bigger, Stronger, & Leaner next time I decide to step on stage again. . .

This New Study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine last week should be eye-opening!!!

Researchers broke the over 48,000 subjects up into 3 groups based on the total minutes of physical activity per week.

Activity defined as equivalent to or greater in intensity than a “brisk walk”

Least active: 10 minutes or less
Most active: 150 minutes or more
Moderately active: in between least and most

The study found that those who had exercised the most leading up to contracting SARS-CoV-2 were least likely to be hospitalized or die from the infection.

Researcher's Conclusion: Consistently meeting physical activity guidelines was strongly associated with a reduced risk for severe COVID-19 outcomes among infected adults. We recommend efforts to promote physical activity be prioritized by public health agencies and incorporated into routine medical care.

My conclusion: Take control of your own health. Eat a well balanced diet. Get active and move your body for at-least 30 minutes per day. You deserve it!

Objectives To compare hospitalisation rates, intensive care unit (ICU) admissions and mortality for patients with COVID-19 who were consistently inactive, doing some activity or consistently meeting physical activity guidelines. Methods We identified 48 440 adult patients with a COVID-19 diagnosis...

Now contrary to what you may have been hearing in this crazy world of ours, I full heartedly believe that you are the product of the choices you have made that have led to this present moment. Day in and day out, hour after hour, week after week, month after month, and year after year.

The people that I have seen struggle the most with their fitness goals are those who need everything to be perfect. We have all seen people who have one amazing week of working out and eating perfectly, then the next week when they miss a day they fall completely off the wagon. That one slip up causes them to say to themselves “Well this week is ruined,” and then they go off on a binge eating spree of epic proportions and swear off everything and everyone with any relation to fitness.

I fully understand these individuals, cause I used to be one of them. I thought that only if I had the perfect training program, perfect diet, perfect gym, perfect training partner, and perfect gym clothing only then would I get the results I wanted. After months of struggling to get all these ducks perfectly in a row, did I come to the realization that most times in this life things are not going to be perfect and I needed to find another way.

The truth is that there are always going to be roadblocks to try to get in the way of your pursuit of perfection. Your job, remember the age old saying "Mo Money, Mo Problems" will continue to add stress the more you move up the ladder. Next aspects of your personal life will make their way in to try to derail your fitness goals. Your partner dumped you or a relative passed so now you are stress eating. Your friends want to go bar hopping every weekend. The list goes on and on. The situations may change, but these are parts of all of our lives that we must come to terms with and have a plan for when they come knocking on our door.

The answer is to change your mindset. Don’t worry about making things perfect, instead shift your focus to a routine of healthy habits that you can keep up with consistently. If you miss a day of training, damn, that sucks, make sure you go tomorrow. Your family or friends wants to go out to a nice Italian restaurant tonight, go and have fun just make sure you substitute some calories during lunch today or during one of your meals tomorrow.

There is nothing you can do to get that missed workout back, simply continue to follow your nutrition plan and set your inTENSION on what you can do for the rest of today that will keep you aligned with your fitness goals, rather than what you may now not be able to do. Focusing on what you have missed will only cause more angst and doubt. Focusing on what you can do will allow you to continue to see and track progress.

I tell my client's that, it doesn’t matter if you have two great weeks then one terrible one, and that cycle repeats: The one terrible week of bad choices; not working out, eating poorly, etc. will always set you back, and cause a cycle of frustration and discontent with your fitness journey. I would always rather see people exercise 2-3x a week for a year, rather than every day for 3 weeks then stop. If you consistently let the wrong choices spiral out of control this will only lead to more and wrong choices, and you will continue to be upset with your lack of results.

For me setting my inTENSION on consistency over perfection is when I finally started to see the results I desired. I started out by slowly implementing habits into my daily life that I could maintain for the long haul. Getting to bed earlier, doing some sort of physical activity everyday, meal prepping, etc. This has helped me make the most progress in my journey and was honestly the salvation that helped me drop that never ending pursuit of perfection.

Moral of the story. If you fall off the wagon one day, don't sweat it just get back up, dust yourself off and focus on what you can do to keep moving forward on your personal health & fitness progress.

If you have set the intention to lose some unwanted bodyfat, build muscle, or maybe a little of both then drinking holiday's such as St. Patricks Day can be difficult to navigate.

Depending on where you are on your fitness journey, you can absolutely drink alcohol and still maintain a healthy lifestyle or achieve the body you desire.

What happens when we drink is our bodies make clearing the alcohol we put into our system the top priority. Alcohol contains a toxin called acetate, and your body tries its best to flush it out as soon as it can.

During this time most metabolic processes are put on the back burner which is why you are constantly dehydrated leading you to want to drink more & more leading to an unfortunate cycle. Obviously this isn't helpful that's on a mindful transformation journey!

If you are serious about your goal then it is so important to fully plan out your nutrition for today and properly fuel your body so you can still have fun with friends & family and not wake up thinking you have ground to make up tomorrow.

First I would start with planning on how many drinks you anticipate to be drinking that day. This will take being honest with yourself, but if you reflect on your goal then this should help you not binge or go overboard.

Next, reverse engineer your day. Say you plan to have 2 b**rs. From my guide you can see I recommend to remove 2 servings of carbohydrates throughout your day for every 1 b**r. That would mean that If I eat my normal 4 meals per day, then I would have to eat 0 or a very very limited amount of carbohydrates today, and especially skip out on the bar chips or pretzels.

Keep in mind this does not mean that you can not have low carbohydrate foods like leafy green vegetables, which is why I switch my usual carb sources that I pair with my protein such as oats, rice, & potatoes (sorry fellow irishmen) to salad greens or fibrous veggies like zucchini & broccoli.

I highly recommend you still eat the same amount of meals as you normally would before you go out just make sure that you are making smart substitutes. Also SIP WATER ALL DAY. I can not stress the importance of keeping your body hydrated especially when alcohol is involved.

Ideally you would get the recommended 25-30 grams of protein. Aim for around 10-15 grams of fat to stabilize blood sugar levels and of course fibrous veggies as mentioned before with each meal before you go out.

Remember, as long as you evening out your drink for food choices, adding in b**r, w**e, or a cocktail here and there shouldn’t slow down your progress too much. Have fun, keep your goal in mind and make sure you are enjoying the drinks, because YOU want to and no one is pressuring you to drink more.

Have an amazing St. Patrick's Day. Stay hydrated, Stay Focused, Be Strong & Always Be inTENSIONAL.

You probably already know that a balanced diet and regular exercise are important factors of reaching your dream physique. But sleep is a crucial third factor that many overlook. Resting for 7-9 hours per night is crucial, especially if you are looking to lose body-fat, increase muscle mass and be ready for your workout the next day. Sleep enhances muscle recovery through protein synthesis and natural human growth hormone release.

If getting 7-9 hours are a struggle for you. Here are 10 tips to help you get to sleep quicker and recover faster so you can show up as your best self day after day!

Sleep is a vital, yet often neglected, component of everyone's overall health and well-being.
