🌟 Big things are coming for our Little Kids Program! 🌟

We’re taking a short break from our Little Kids classes for the remainder of the summer as we prepare for an even better experience this fall.

🎉 Classes return August 31st!

To provide more individual attention and the best possible learning environment, we’re limiting the class to just 10 students. This small class size allows us to build confidence, develop coordination, and make learning Jiu-Jitsu fun for every child.

If you’ve been thinking about enrolling your little one, be sure to reserve a spot early—once all 10 spots are filled, we’ll start a waiting list.

When I met Tessa, she was already a champion.

She walked on to the soccer team at the University of Texas Permian Basin, proving early that hard work could outshine talent alone. She went on to earn her nursing degree while pregnant with her second of four children, graduating magna cm laude and making the Dean’s List. Most people would have been satisfied with that accomplishment, but that’s just not who she is.

After the birth of her fourth child, Tessa set her sights on bodybuilding.

Her first competition was the Branch Warren Texas Legends, where she competed in Bikini, placed 3rd, and earned her national qualification. At her next show, the Kuclo Classic, she moved up to Figure and won 1st in Novice, 1st in True Novice, 1st in Open, and 2nd in Masters, once again qualifying for nationals. She followed that with a 4th-place finish at Team Universe Figure Nationals.

Her final bodybuilding competition says more about her than any trophy ever could.

On the morning she was flying out to compete in December 2021, she was T-boned on Highway 175 and her car was totaled. She was bruised, swollen, and in pain. The first responders urged her to go to the hospital. Instead, she called me with one concern: “Can I still make my flight?” She refused to let adversity make the decision for her. She competed anyway and finished in the Top 10 at the Sheru Classic USA Figure Nationals.

That same champion mindset carried over into Jiu-Jitsu.

In a short amount of time, Tessa has built an impressive competitive résumé:

• 🥈 2024 IBJJF Pan No-Gi Open Class
• 🥈 2023 IBJJF Pan No-Gi Championship
• 🥈 2023 IBJJF World No-Gi Championship

But what impresses me most has nothing to do with medals.

Tessa has become one of the biggest reasons Freedom Jiu Jitsu continues to grow. She is the quiet force behind the scenes—the one making sure our students feel welcomed, our gym runs smoothly, and everyone who walks through our doors is safe and taken care of. While others see the classes, she handles countless things that most people never notice.

She’s also one of the toughest training partners in the room. Anyone who’s rolled with her already knows that.

Outside the gym, she’s an exceptional nurse. Throughout her career, I’ve watched her repeatedly choose integrity over convenience and doing what’s right over doing what’s easy. She has been willing to sacrifice for her patients and stand by her principles, even when it came at a personal cost.

There are champions who collect trophies, and there are champions who elevate everyone around them.

Tessa is both.

Freedom Jiu Jitsu is better because of her, and I am a better man, husband, father and coach because of her.

Big promotion day today!

Congratulations to Jason on earning his brown belt! Jason came to us as a solid purple belt and has been an incredible teammate, training partner, and friend. This promotion is well deserved, and I’m excited to see what comes next. Congratulations, brother!

Congratulations to Luke on earning his second stripe on his brown belt! Luke has always had some dangerous Jiu Jitsu, but what has impressed me even more is his growth as a leader. He doesn’t just show up, train, and go home—he stays after class to help new students, shares his knowledge, and invests in the team. That’s what being a great teammate is all about.

Congratulations as well to Phil, Cesar, Colby, Cody, Blaine, and Brody on earning your stripes! These aren’t just little pieces of tape, they represent countless hours of hard work, discipline, sweat, frustration, perseverance, and growth.

I’m incredibly proud to be your coach. Thank you all for trusting me and for making Freedom Jiu Jitsu the family that it is. Keep showing up, keep learning, and keep getting better

It’s an honor to watch each of you step up, test yourselves, and represent Freedom Jiu Jitsu with pride. Win or lose, it takes courage to get out there and compete, and I’m incredibly proud of all three of you.
