Hung Gar's Two-Man Fighting Form | Gung Ji F**k Fu Dui Da | 2006

This demonstration was filmed over 20 years ago in 2006 at the historic Far East Cafe in San Francisco's Chinatown. In the background, you can hear the narration of my Sifu, Great Grandmaster Y.C. Wong, which gives this recording a very special significance for me.

At that time, I was still a young practitioner beginning to explore the depth of Hung Gar Kung Fu. It was an honor to represent my Sifu and perform alongside my Kung Fu brother at such a memorable community event.

Every journey begins somewhere, and I'm grateful to have shared this moment while carrying forward the lineage and teachings entrusted to me. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into an earlier chapter of my martial arts journey.

🐉 The "Green Lion" (青獅 / 青狮 – Qīng Shī) | Traditional Fut San (Foshan) Kung Fu Warrior Lion

If you’re used to the cute, rounded faces of modern festive lion dances, this powerful performance might catch you completely off guard! While some mistake this unique, animalistic look for a Tibetan style, this is actually an incredibly authentic showcase of a traditional "Green Lion" (青狮 - Qīng Shī) in the classic Fut San (Foshan) style.
Filmed at the legendary Zhong Lian Martial Arts Center in Foshan, Guangdong—the absolute heartland of Southern Chinese martial arts—this video captures a living tradition unchanged by time.

Unlike modern hybrid lions designed for acrobatic pole-jumping, this lion features an ultra-traditional "Lao Shi" (Old Style) finish. It is crafted with a deep green face, heavy, dark overhanging eyebrows, an aggressive mouth structure, and thick, coarse bristle hair rather than the soft, fluffy sheep's wool seen on modern festive lions.

The design features a fierce, aggressive face: a sharp, curved horn (representing the mythical Nian beast), a high forehead, and a distinctively curved upper lip revealing sharp teeth. Historically tied to legendary kung fu lineages like Hung Gar, these heavy lion heads required immense martial arts strength to handle. Every movement, blink, and snarl in this video represents the raw power, discipline, and fighting spirit of Guangdong's ancient martial heritage.

The Secret History of the Green Lion:
In Cantonese martial arts traditions, the Green Lion holds a legendary, fierce status rooted in political rebellion. Following the fall of the Ming Dynasty, anti-Qing kung fu secret societies used the green-faced lion to secretly symbolize the invading Qing army. Kung fu schools would perform intense routines where the lion would systematically hunt and "eat" the green lettuce (a ritual called Cai Qing). By having the lion violently shred and spit out the greens, the practitioners were using a hidden ritual to symbolize destroying the Qing occupiers and reclaiming their heritage right in plain sight of their oppressors.

Look closely at the background of the training hall: you can see the Chinese characters “狮精神” (Lion Spirit) painted proudly on the wall—a hallmark of traditional Guangdong kung fu schools.

Hung Gar Fighting Technique | 3 Stars Strike Like Black Tiger Claws

This demonstration explores one application of the Black Tiger hand shape from the Hung Gar system.

The 3 Stars Strike is not a fixed technique—it is a principle that can be adapted in many ways. It may be applied to the inside or outside line, used as a series of three consecutive strikes, developed into a trapping sequence, or employed to divide and control an opponent's structure and power. Depending on the situation, elements may be added, removed, or modified while the underlying principle remains the same.

One of the most important lessons in traditional martial arts is understanding that a single movement can contain many possibilities. Rather than memorizing countless techniques, practitioners learn to recognize the principles that allow one technique to evolve into many applications.

This video presents one demonstration of that concept within the Hung Gar system. Iron Wire Martial Arts Jacob A. Brinnand Traditional Martial Arts Federation Hung Gar Fight Applications & Forms

For over 20 years I have been involved in security and private protection. The man who taught me Security and protection was James Green.

We worked as bouncers together at club 101 off the highway and in Northgate. This was in San Rafael Ca, early 2005 - 09

I learned a lot from him, and I am grateful for all the warriors who have helped me along the way!
