When a community comes together, lives can be changed.

The Joe Delaney Learn to Swim Program, presented by GEHA, is more than swim lessons—it's a community-wide commitment to preventing drowning, increasing access to lifesaving water safety skills, and honoring the legacy of Kansas City Chiefs legend Joe Delaney.

This incredible impact is made possible through the partnership of GEHA Health, Wyandotte County/KCK Parks and Recreation, the Hunt Family Foundation, and the YMCA of Greater Kansas City. Together, these organizations are removing barriers so children and families can gain the confidence, skills, and knowledge needed to stay safe in and around the water.

Every lesson taught, every child empowered, and every family reached is a testament to what can happen when partners unite around a shared purpose.

Together, we're honoring a hero's legacy by creating a safer future—one swimmer at a time.

A Fitness Journey Series: Let Us Help You Get Active
July 2026 - A FITNESS JOURNEY SERIES FOR AND ABOUT THE PROVIDENCE YMCA’S ACTIVE ADULT COMMUNITY

Member Spotlight - Heather Robinson

As told to Justin Brantley,

My name is Heather Robinson. I am 38 years old, married, & have 3 kiddos. I have been a member off & on at the YMCA for the last 10 years.

I am a Kindergarten teacher, gymnastics coach, & mom of 3. Our schedule stays busy & we seem to be on the go most of the time. I had my last baby in May 2024 & had not been back to the gym since then. It seemed like I never had time & always had an excuse. But after 2 years off I decided enough is enough. I wanted & needed to get back in shape. Healthy habits are a big deal in our household & I needed to make sure I was leading by example.

Before I started back up with my fitness journey, I was feeling tired, worn down, & just not as confident about myself. Since starting back at the gym this summer, I’ve lost 10 lbs. & am seeing a big difference in the way my clothes are fitting. I’ve got more energy & motivation than before. Muscles are starting to show again & I’m so proud of the work I’m putting in!

I’ve been back at it in the gym for about 8 weeks now & am feeling fantastic. I’ve still got work to do but getting started is the hardest part… & I did that! My kiddos love coming to the YMCA & can’t wait until they are old enough to participate. They see the work I’m putting in & motivate me to keep going. Summer is almost over & I will be back to school, teaching Kindergarten. I plan to keep the momentum going into the school year & dig deep to make it to the 5:15 am classes. Prioritizing my health & fitness is a must!

I would encourage everyone to remember that “You can do hard things!” Making the decision to prioritize your health & fitness really will change your life. The process isn’t always easy, but it is worth it. Put in the work & be proud of the progress. Celebrate your victories along the way & keep pushin’! We got this!!

My husband & children are always my biggest cheerleaders! Knowing that my littles are watching, learning, & copying what they see is powerful. Prioritizing my health & fitness sets an example that I am proud of & eager for them to follow.

We recently had an amazing time at our Potluck & Bingo at the Providence YMCA! Everyone enjoyed delicious food, great conversation, exciting bingo games, and lots of laughter.
A huge thank you to Deb Gaskin, PACE Marketer with Midland Care, for sponsoring the delicious sub sandwiches and supporting our event. Deb helps older adults and their families learn about Midland Care's PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), which provides comprehensive medical care and services that help seniors remain living safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
Congratulations to all of our bingo winners, and thank you to everyone who brought prizes and food to share ❤️🤍💙
