The very first time I did this loop in 2017, something happened that changed my uniform for canoe tripping forever. On the very last portage of the route, I picked up a giant leech and six of its babies, discovering them while paddling through Kiosk towards the access. I removed them by using fire, but my foot still bled for two hours afterwards. Every portaging trip I’ve done since, I’ve worn water socks with my Keen sandals and they have protected my feet from more injuries and issues than you can imagine. June 14th. Nice consolation prize after I lost TWO +60cm trouts because of my too eager netting game..
