Dark Sky season is still gracing us with its presence across the Southwest. Here at BaseCamp37, we’re proud to be a Friend of the Night Sky through Stellar Vista Observatory, our local dark sky conservancy and non-profit.

During peak season, the Milky Way’s bright, detailed core showcases our galaxy in the evening sky before it slips below the horizon for the winter. With very little light pollution out here at camp, you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye, along with thousands of stars, planets, constellations, satellites, and, if your timing is right, the occasional meteor streaking overhead.

The best part? No telescope required. Just turn off the lights, give your eyes a little time to adjust, and look up. ✨💫

As shared by recent guest Steve, “So, so much more gratifying than staying in a McHotel. Wonderful property in a spectacular setting. Every imaginable detail taken care of. We only didn’t like that we could only stay one night!!!”

Postcards from BaseCamp37. 🤠⛺️❤️

A view of camp we often don’t share, but undoubtedly one of our favorites. Looking back at camp from the Utah // Arizona border, or the 37th parallel, gives you a new perspective on the Grand Staircase. Here you can see camp at the foot of the Chocolate Cliffs with the Vermilion Cliffs looming above. And a little peek of the White Cliffs on top hiding some of the best petroglyphs in the region.

And yes, the 37 in our name does come from the 37th parallel. We feel pretty freaking lucky to call this place home.

Fall is in full swing, tents are open, and we can’t wait to host you at camp. Join us.

A little update from Zion National Park:

✔️ Yes, Zion is open

✔️ Yes, Zion had a flash flood this week

✔️ Yes, flash floods happen every monsoon season

✔️ Yes, park rangers and search & rescue are trained specifically for these events

✔️ Yes, trails and roads reopen quickly once water levels drop

✔️ Yes, monsoons are incredibly localized, which usually only impacts one section of an otherwise massive park

✔️ Yes, the desert is stunning precisely because of moments like this

✔️ And yes, the media really loves to talk about these parks and “disastrous” type events 😅

Zion isn’t going anywhere, and neither are we. Come stay a while this fall and explore our favorite park during our favorite season. 🤠⛺️🧡

We’re not quite ready for pumpkin spice yet. So we’re squeezing another week (or so) out of our cowboy pool season as we welcome the end of summer and beginning of fall.

When the pumpkin spice does hit, we’ll be ready. The beginning of October still has some great availability and it’s quite literally our favorite season. ❤️🧡💛
