OFFICIAL: New Ownership Group Takes Over Kalamazoo Soccer, Launching Full Rebrand and Major Stadium Renovations for 2027

A new era of summer sports and entertainment is officially arriving in Kalamazoo.

Kzoo Soccer announced today that it has taken over local semi-pro soccer operations to launch a revamped men's team in USL League Two and a women's team in the USL W League, kicking off in May 2027.

The new club succeeds Kalamazoo FC, whose owner Dave Shufelt recently stepped down after eight seasons to pass the torch to new stewards.

The club is owned by Brian Colopy, owner of the Kalamazoo Growlers and Outlier Events, and Aaron Guerrero, a 13-year sports management veteran who will serve as club president and oversee daily operations.

While soccer is at the heart of the club, the new ownership group is building a brand anchored in total entertainment, fun, and community engagement.

As part of taking over the team, the owners are completely rebranding the organization from the ground up.

To ensure the identity belongs to the city, the club is handing the naming rights directly to the community.

Starting today, fans can submit name ideas at the link in the comments.

Community submissions will shape a shortlist of five names to be revealed October 15, with the final club name, crest, and colors officially unveiled on November 5.

The club will continue to play at Soisson-Rapacz-Clason Field at Mayors' Riverfront Park, but fans can expect a dramatically transformed venue.

Kzoo Soccer is undertaking major site renovations designed to elevate the facility into a top-tier destination for soccer, massive community events, festivals, and year-round entertainment.

Kalamazoo's men's team will compete in the Great Lakes Division alongside regional rivals like the Flint City Bucks.

Security is an important part of the fan experience, and we added a lot of it for tonight's Taco and Tequila Fest. 👍

Here's a breakdown of what we're doing with Adams Risk Management Group...

They are staffed by 100% active and retired public safety personnel from the greater-Kalamazoo area.

All fans are subject to event screening and our prohibited-item policy. Medical & diaper-bags will still be searched.

No fan or guest weapons are permitted including pocket knives, pepper spray/OC, kubatons/kubotans, and other items that security determines are weapons or threat items.

All entrances, exits and points of interest are protected by a member of Adams Risk Management Group.

They are respected by every law enforcement and public-safety agency in Kalamazoo County as they operate with integrity, accountability, and professionalism.

The group's owner also sits on the board of directors for the Michigan Council of Professional Investigators.

It took our team 48 hours to flip the stadium from baseball to a festival site complete with a stage 🙌

The yard games + inflatables are on the field & the food & drink vendors are located on the concourse.

Being able to use every inch of Honor Credit Union Stadium makes hosting festivals a lot easier and helps us spread fans throughout the facility.

Today is Taco & Tequila Festival with special musical performances by the Ying Yang Twins & Twista.

Saturday is Mac & Cheese Festival with special musical performances by Buckcherry & Sponge.

Security will be at every gate, checking every fan for any items that should not be on a person attending a festival.

We're excited to bring this to life and can't wait to see fans join us this weekend.

The baseball field is a festival ground for this weekend only and here's why... 😅

In the Spring, we announced the change to Honor Credit Union Stadium and shared that it would be hosting more than just baseball games (concerts, movie nights, youth games, stadium rentals/athletics).

We wanted one final event that concludes summer with live music + our sister company's (Outlier Events) signature event.

Our team got a huge stage and went all out...

Tomorrow is Taco & Tequila Festival with special musical performances by the Ying Yang Twins & Twista.

Saturday is Mac & Cheese Festival with special musical performances by Buckcherry & Sponge.

The organization provides physical and emotional support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting placement.

This was awesome 🙌 Detroit Tigers legend Cecil Fielder took some time before his appearance with the Kalamazoo Growlers to talk to the Jr Growlers.

We hope this exclusive meet & greet for the kids inspires them to continue chasing their dreams, work hard and think of one day playing in their home state for the Detroit Tigers.

Fielder is a 3x All-Star, 2x Silver Slugger and led the American League in RBI's for three straight seasons (1990-92).

The boys met Brandon Inge last summer when he came to the Growlers game - and Cecil Fielder this summer 🙂

The stadium is turning into a disc golf course this Thursday 🥏🙂

The 9-hole course can be played an unlimited number of times, and registration supports blood cancer patients & families.

Players will receive a commemorative disc + towel (and a bonus disc while supplies last).
