Event description:

One enchanted night in the Kalamazoo House.

This December, join young Hattie as her family celebrates their first holiday party at the historic Kalamazoo House in the heart of downtown, with twinkling lights in Bronson Park, carolers on the snow-dusted Kalamazoo Mall, and the particular magic only a Michigan winter brings.

Then a mysterious guest arrives with an enchanted gift, and Hattie’s night becomes a dream. Her Nutcracker comes to life to battle an army of life-sized mice led by a fierce Mouse Queen. Her bravery breaks the spell, and the Prince carries her through the Magnificent Pines, where whitetail deer roam under the moonlight, and the icy breeze off Lake Michigan lifts them into the clouds.

They soar with Michigan Snowflakes into the Land of the Sweets, welcomed by the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Dew Drop Fairy, gentle doves, and fluttering monarch butterflies, where Michigan’s own treats dance in her honor: donuts, Blue Moon ice cream, gingerbread, and a brand-new Peppermint Princess, in tribute to the years when Kalamazoo was the peppermint capital of the world.

This season, we welcome two guest artists from Grand Rapids Ballet: Nigel Tau as Drosselmeyer and Will Wisneskey as the Nutcracker Prince, dancing alongside more than 90 Kalamazoo dancers, with full theatrical lighting, sound, and a professional technical crew.

Saturday, December 5 at 6:00 pm · Sunday, December 6 at 2:00 pm Comstock Community Auditorium.

Meet our Boys Program!

Strength. Coordination. Agility. Jumps. Turns. Ballet.

Our Saturday boys’ class brings them together in a cross-training class designed specifically for young male dancers building strength, agility, confidence, and the foundations of classical ballet.

And for boys who want to take their ballet training further, the path is here. They join an age-appropriate technique class, train through the same curriculum, and have the same opportunities to grow and perform as every dancer in our school.

Because male dancers aren’t an extra in classical ballet.

They’re essential to it. And they’re essential here, too!

Meet Noire!

Our most dedicated artists train the full Conservatory schedule, ten-plus hours each week of ballet technique, pointe, contemporary, Pilates, and conditioning. They take on greater challenges, greater responsibility, and lead our school on every stage, from The Nutcracker Kalamazoo, KAL|Dance and our spring fairy tale ballet each year.

These are the dancers our youngest students watch from the wings. The ones who show them what years of training, perseverance, and love for this art can become.

And every Noire dancer was once a Sunshine. That’s the whole point of the ladder.

Fall enrollment is open · Placement by assessment · Text 269-399-5342
