Event description:
One enchanted night in the Kalamazoo House.
This December, join young Hattie as her family celebrates their first holiday party at the historic Kalamazoo House in the heart of downtown, with twinkling lights in Bronson Park, carolers on the snow-dusted Kalamazoo Mall, and the particular magic only a Michigan winter brings.
Then a mysterious guest arrives with an enchanted gift, and Hattie’s night becomes a dream. Her Nutcracker comes to life to battle an army of life-sized mice led by a fierce Mouse Queen. Her bravery breaks the spell, and the Prince carries her through the Magnificent Pines, where whitetail deer roam under the moonlight, and the icy breeze off Lake Michigan lifts them into the clouds.
They soar with Michigan Snowflakes into the Land of the Sweets, welcomed by the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Dew Drop Fairy, gentle doves, and fluttering monarch butterflies, where Michigan’s own treats dance in her honor: donuts, Blue Moon ice cream, gingerbread, and a brand-new Peppermint Princess, in tribute to the years when Kalamazoo was the peppermint capital of the world.
This season, we welcome two guest artists from Grand Rapids Ballet: Nigel Tau as Drosselmeyer and Will Wisneskey as the Nutcracker Prince, dancing alongside more than 90 Kalamazoo dancers, with full theatrical lighting, sound, and a professional technical crew.
Saturday, December 5 at 6:00 pm · Sunday, December 6 at 2:00 pm Comstock Community Auditorium.
