What a way to close out the season! Three days of picture-perfect September weather, competitive racing, and unbeatable times with the PYC family. As one member so aptly stated, Labor Day Weekend feels like "the Sunday of Summer." But our members made the most of it! ⛵☀️

Here’s a quick recap of everything we packed into the 3-day weekend:

Saturday & Sunday: Thistle, Lightning, and Flying Scot Fleet racing with great breeze and beautiful skies.

Saturday Night: The Thistle Fleet hosted its annual Cheeseburger in Paradise party complete with live music. 🍔🎶

Sunday Morning: Membership gathered on the Patio for our Annual Meeting.

Sunday Afternoon: Cool treats at the Annual Ice Cream Party. 🍦

Sunday Night: A special celebration to say 'Thank You' to members for their generosity from our Junior Sailing program.

Monday Morning: Awards presentation for Junior Sailing, Sunfish, and Laser fleets. 🏆

Thank you to everyone who raced, volunteered, and celebrated with us to make this weekend unforgettable.

2 weeks ago, our Blue Fleet Group 2 sailors competed in the Verna Yates Optimist Regatta! 9 juniors sailed 3 races while spectators gathered on the patio. Conditions quickly turned sporty, with gusts reaching up to 20 mph! Our juniors handled it well, proving their courage and hard-work this season! Thank you to our instructors and support for making this happen each year!

Rainy weekends never stop us from hosting events!

This past weekend, 7 junior sailors participated in the Lightning Junior Regatta hosted by Fleet 36. Conditions were just right to sail one race before storms rolled in. Congratulations to our winner - skipper Hannah with crew Dave and Violet! Thank you to our boat owners for lending their boat to get younger sailors involved and confident!

Later in the evening, Fleet 36 also hosted the annual Corn Roast, an event loved by all! Nothing better than a butter jar!

Bocce 2026 ✅

25 teams participated in the annual event! The teams all have one member from each fleet: Junior, Thistle, Lightning and Flying Scot. After several rounds, the Tigers and Duckies had a head to head to claim first place. Congrats to the Duckies for winning!

Thank you to our Lightning Fleet for hosting this event each year and taking the time to clean the lawn of goose p**p for the best game play possible!

What’s new at PYC? The new Opti fleet is fully operational for our Blue Fleet Groups. Thank you to our membership for donating to replace our 40 year old fleet!
The smoke cleared just enough and storms stayed away for the Golf Invitational to commence. Congratulations to the winning team!

Sailing is worth living for at PYC!

It has been a quiet week at the club. Fleet racing has resumed as normal and junior sailing classes are in full swing! This weekend the Pro Am Invitational Golf Tournament will commence, another highly anticipated event of the summer!

Last week was Junior Sailing camp! 14 juniors participated allowing 7 of our 420s to be out on the water with their new sails! Despite the heat, the weather and wind were perfect for our juniors to complete drills and race. Thank you to the instructors, Tim Werley and Ryan Ruhlman for making this camp possible year after year. Also thanks to our cooks, Rob and Abby Ruhlman for fueling our campers!

Laser Day 2026 ✅

One of PYC’s most anticipated events of the summer was a huge success! Laser Day is a round robin mini regatta, this year over 33 sailors participated! 11 races in total were sailed, 3 races per participant. The front lawn was filled with spectators and the swimming area was full of people trying to beat the heat. Thank you to our boat owners who lend their boat each year to make this event possible.
