It’s been a busy, welcoming couple of weeks at Thunder Road Stables! Meet our newest horses to the farm - Perfect Kiss, Radio Up, Cleopanther, and Pip! Pip’s herd was especially happy to have him as a new friend, as seen in the last photo! We are super excited yo watch all of these younglings grow and prosper!

An independent film maker, Leonard C. Thon, recently shot some video at Thunder Road Stables for a documentary he’s doing about the north fork of Long Island. We were honored to have him choose our beautiful farm to be part of his film, plus The Extraordinarily Lovely Lotti, did an exceptional job in her acting debut!! We are proud that our farm is such a special place that film makers want it to be part of the art! As a two time cancer survivor, I know there is strength in numbers when it comes to feeling normal again. As a horse owner, and now barn owner, I can attest to the power of healing through horses. If you are a cancer patient, survivor or the family member of one, please consider attending these equine therapy sessions being held at Thunder Road Stables on September 23, 30th and October 7th. When asked about Artic, his proud owner, Alison, gave the following information:

How did Artic become a part of the family (his back story and how he went from racehorse to your personal horse)?

Eight years ago I discovered Artic randomly at a barn my daughter Maddie was taking riding lessons at. I happened to see him in a stall and thought he was the most beautiful horse I had ever seen and inquired about him. I learned that he was a rare white Thoroughbred who was on stall rest because he was recovering from knee surgery. Artic had fractured his knee at his fifth and final race at Belmont. During his recovery period his owner needed to sell Artic and somehow I convinced my husband that we needed him to be part of our family!

If Artic had a theme song, what would it be?

I don’t know what his theme song would be but I know when I hear the song Joy of My Life by Chris Stapleton, I think of Artic because he brings me so much happiness.

Biggest personality trait.

Artic is a character. He just wants to have fun and for everyone to be happy.

If Artic was human, what would his occupation be?

Probably a professional taste tester!

Thunder Road Stables has no doubt Artic would make a fantastic taste tester, as he steals both treats and hearts!

We have a winner! We are so proud of trainer/owner Mike Rizzo and his beautiful 3 year old filly, Gold Star Mazikeen, on their win at Monticello on August 19th! Look at that finish line photo! She finished strong! She’s definitely one to keep an eye on. She’s got a great career ahead of her under the expert training and care of Mike!
