Vladimir Lenin, founder of the Russian communist party and architect and leader of the Bolshevik revolution of 1917, famously said that “The goal of socialism is communism”. In Marxist-Leninist doctrine, socialism and communism are not viewed as entirely separate, competing ideologies, but rather as two successive developmental stages of a post-capitalist society. Socialism (The Lower Stage): This is established immediately after a socialist revolution. The working class controls the state, and private ownership of the major means of production (like large factories and infrastructure) is abolished in favor of public or state ownership. Communism (The Higher Stage): This is the final, mature phase that develops out of a socialist foundation. In a communist society, social classes, monetary systems, and the state itself naturally “wither away” because the community collectively, in theory, manages its resources. Individual liberties are abolished by the state which takes on the role of full controlled ownership of all property, media, businesses, banking, trade, education, and other social services. Therefore, within this specific ideological framework, socialism serves as the necessary transit phase, and its ultimate purpose or destination is to build the conditions required to reach a stateless classless communist society. Today we are seeing these dangerous political ideologies spread throughout America especially among college students.
