Most gyms pack as many people into a class as possible.
We do the opposite.
At Burn District we cap our small group training sessions intentionally — and here’s why that decision changes everything for your results 👇
A coach can only coach what they can see.
In a room of 20 people — your form gets a glance.
Your effort goes unnoticed.
Your limitations get ignored.
You become a number in a headcount.
In a small group at Burn District — your coach knows your name, your history, your limitations, and your goals before you walk in the door.
Every rep gets coached.
Every session gets adjusted to where you are that day.
Every week builds intentionally on the last.
That’s not a group fitness class.
That’s personal training in a small group environment.
Here’s what the research backs up:
Small group training produces results comparable to 1-on-1 personal training — at a fraction of the cost — when the group is small enough for the coach to actually coach.
The key word is small.
Not 15 people. Not 20 people.
Small enough that the coach can see you. Know you. Push you past the point where you’d stop on your own.
That’s the standard at Burn District.
That’s why our clients get results that big box gyms can’t replicate.
Not because we work harder.
Because we coach smarter.
DM us TRAIN to experience the difference. 👊

Before you hire a personal trainer, know this:
In Florida, you do not need a nationally accredited certification to call yourself a personal trainer.
Anyone can coach.
Anyone can write workouts.
Anyone can charge for training.
Most people assume every trainer is certified. That’s simply not true.
This August marks 15 years since I earned my first nationally accredited certification through AFAA (now NASM). Passing the exam didn’t make me a great coach—it showed me how much I still had to learn.
A nationally accredited certification demonstrates competency in exercise science, anatomy, program design, movement mechanics, injury prevention, and professional ethics. It’s the foundation of responsible coaching—not the finish line.
At Burn District Fitness, every coach holds a nationally accredited certification. Not because Florida requires it—but because our members deserve coaches committed to mastering their craft.
Just like you’d ask about your doctor’s qualifications…
Don’t be afraid to ask who’s coaching your body.

One week out.
Burn District turns 8 — and we’re throwing the doors open. The week of July 20 is our 8th Birthday Week: an open community week with complementary drop-ins and one big ask — bring someone who needs this.
Eight years of real coaching in Jacksonville Beach.
We want to celebrate with the people who built this community and the friends they’ve been meaning to bring.
Save the date. Full schedule drops this week.

NOBODY TAUGHT ME HOW TO RUN A GYM
People sometimes say, “It must be nice owning a gym.”
And honestly… sometimes it is.
I get to coach people I genuinely care about. I get to watch lives change. I get to do work that has purpose.
But when Melissa and I bought Burn District five years ago, I thought I was buying a gym.
What I was really buying was the opportunity to become someone I wasn’t yet.
Within the first 12 weeks, nearly 30% of the gym’s revenue walked out the door.
By January we were down to our last $1,000 between our business and personal accounts.
That’s when reality set in.
Knowing how to coach and knowing how to run a business are two completely different skill sets.
Exercise science wasn’t going to save this business.
Passion wasn’t going to save it either.
I had to become a student again.
Sales. Marketing. Leadership. Pricing. Financials. Retention. Hiring. Legal compliance. Systems.
And maybe the hardest lesson of all — how to make difficult decisions when people were counting on me.
People see a one-hour workout.
They don’t see the programming, the payroll, the meetings, the insurance, the attorneys, the continuing education, or the constant work of improving what we deliver every single day.
And yes — sometimes that still means cleaning toilets after class.
Not because it’s beneath me. Because no job is beneath someone building something they believe in.
Burn District didn’t just make me a better business owner.
It made me a better human.
It taught me resilience when I wanted certainty. Humility when I thought I had the answers. Leadership when comfort was easier.
That’s the gift.
Not the business. The person I had to become to build it.
If you’re building something right now — don’t be discouraged by everything you don’t know yet.
Growth has a way of introducing you to the person you’re capable of becoming.
Keep building.

🎉 Happy 3rd Burniversary, Jennifer! 🎉
For the past three years, Jennifer has been a cornerstone of our 9 a.m. crew.
As a devoted wife, mom, and nurse, she somehow does it all—and still shows up ready to work.
Her strength, athleticism, and confidence have grown tremendously, but her joyful spirit and witty personality are what make her such a valued part of our community.
We’re so grateful for you Jennifer and your family. 🧡💪
