2027 SCHOLARSHIPS AND TRAINING GRANTS

Applications open October 1, 2026.

The deadline for receipt of applications is November 30, 2026 at 5:00 pm New York time.
Applicants will be notified in February 2027, and awards will be made in March 2027.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Nine categories of scholarships are offered this year in marine conservation (basic or applied research), marine biology, underwater archaeology, sea turtle conservation, climate change adaptation/mitigation, oceans & human health, extreme environment human physiology, and journalism/graphic arts/photography/videography. They are intended to support independent research, field work, and conservation/restoration activities, as specified in the descriptions found on our website.

TRAINING GRANTS

Ten categories of training grants are offered this year. Training grants provide funding for diving and diving-related underwater training. WDHOF and our sponsors offer several dive training grants for both beginners to learn to dive and for certified divers to advance their skills.

💗 **KRAKEN REIGN MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: KATE MORRIS** 👑🌊

Some women find diving. **Some women find a whole new direction beneath the surface.**

Meet **Kate Morris**, a lifelong ocean lover who grew up in Atlantic Beach, Florida, and has always felt most at home **in, on, or around the water**.

After realizing her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist was no longer bringing her happiness, Kate finally pursued something she'd wanted to do for years—**scuba diving.** And that first step into the underwater world became the beginning of something much bigger.

In 2020, Kate and a friend created **Jacksonville Scuba Women**, bringing women throughout Northeast Florida together for diving, friendship, and community. Now she's taking that passion even further with **Women’s Scuba Adventures**, a women-only scuba travel venture preparing for its first adventure to **Roatán this September!** ✈️🤿🌴

Kate represents exactly what Kraken Reign is about: women discovering what lights them up, building connections with other women, chasing bigger adventures, and helping one another go farther than we might have gone alone.

And when she isn't building community or planning the next adventure, you'll find Kate traveling and diving with her husband and friends—exactly where she loves to be. 💗
